Does it make sense to risk say $200,00 in equipment regardless if its money out of your pocket or financed, while you are learning how to run a business when you can enter the same business risking under $50,000?

Now OP before you argue about new truck reliability, shinny, warrenty, blah blah blah. You can buy a good used truck, put some money into it fix it up how ever you like, before you ever take it on the road because in your situation you don't need it to generate revenue right away.
Now you own a truck, like you wanted. Plus $200,000 to do something else with, and you will have higher revenue in your business.

Like rollin coal said, ditch the co driver. In business, partners are dead weight.

Invest it towards a mobile home park with little or no park owned homes.

I would not allocate more than 50 k into O/O deal. 30k for the equipment and 20k as business cash reserves.

They make new trucks every day...
When was the last time anyone made new land?

It's a smart investment if you know what you're doing. But as always buyer beware.
It's just as complicated as trucking.

If it's really your dream to buy your own truck then I'd say go for it. What's $150 grand when you can drive the thing for 10 years or more and make 10 times that much back in revenue? Old trucks are nice if you find the right one that somebody has put a ton of work into (or you're patient enough to) but if money is no object it's hard to beat a brand new machine that never been anybody's but yours.
