They're top heavy for sure, the house on the other hand is a sweet load. This is in Tennessee on I24 a few years ago, I always like this picture. IMG_1964.JPG

I've done a few carbodies too. They're a bit strange looking going down the road with the spindle pointing straight up. :laughing6:

I was wondering that myself. How does one legally scale that. Plus the tie down factor, but I kept my fingers off the keypad for a change

I hauled the upper works of a 4100 once on a multi axle to take to Ca. I had one of the blocks start to blow out on me in Weatherford Tx. 2 20 ton hand jacks and replaced the bad block with a newer block. Fun fun

10ton each sorry. Yes 2 chains per Counterweight. I called the guy who trained me to double check with him he said the same. The guy behind me did the same. Crossed 2 open scales didn't get stopped.

Nope not me, nowhere near there.

What happens when a chain breaks?

    And they will.

You're the driver, you do what you want, but my personal rule, as a minimum, was legal plus 1 or 2. Often times I ended up with more. In fact, sometimes I had securement that exceeded the weight of what was on the deck. It depends on a lot of factors. A counterweight can do a lot of damage if it comes loose. And I have done a lot of crane moves.

    YMMV

P.S. Seeing as you're in Canada, I am going to assume those weights were 10 tonnes each, or a little over 22,000 lbs each.

    What size chains? 5/16 would've been under-secured.
Where did you hook to? Chain pulls or just stakes/spools?

Oxbow, Lepton1, Razororange and 5 others Thank this.
