I have a '93 that's about to be 10-8 again after being parked the past 5 years. Older trucks are a bit simpler and nothing on them can't be rebuilt that you wouldn't end up rebuilding on a newer truck. I really like my 2010 but with the uncertainty of what'll happen after December I may like my old truck better.
flatbeb mac, Dharok, SheepDog and 4 others Thank this. -
The company I work for has them on every trailer. They aren't the self deploy style. You have to open and close them. I open them every morning during pretrip and close them at post trip. I'm walking around anyway so it's NO added effort.
Don't know if it's true....but I heard they save 2% of fuel. Small amount on one truck.... significant amount on 200 trucks.... real money on 5000 trucks...
I have had 3 different 4 wheelers yell out their windows that I left the trailer doors open. First time I panicked and pulled off on the shoulder. Of course, it was just the open tails...
Next two times I just waved and smiled like I was on the short bus....
I keep them closed in high winds and when it's snowing. Learned the snow lesson the hard way. Awful hard to close with a bunch of snow packed around them.... Also if I only have a few miles to drive....fargonaz, Big Don, EZ Money and 1 other person Thank this. -
Your doors are open? Beautiful. Can't see in the trailer, but I'm positive their doors were open.str8t10, longbedGTs, Big Don and 3 others Thank this.

I'd be on the "short bus" too, if I had a van blow 'em open in front of me ..... !!! Just pull TANKS; guys...more fuel efficient~!EZ Money Thanks this. -
I was coming across IL the other week empty, the wind was blasting me on my right side.
SO glad I had an empty tanker!.....
I don't think I will ever go back to a van or reefer!
As far as mileage I get 5.5.....Half my miles are empty too...
I guess running with the cruise on 78 kills mileage...lol!str8t10, austinmike, Bean Jr. and 2 others Thank this. -
Only ever pulled one wagon with a tail. I left em alone and when I got to where I was going one side popped open and the other was still closed. Next time I left I pulled the red cord so atleast that way if they opened they would both open so I didn't look like a lopsided idiot. Just a normal idiot.

The oldest truck we have is a ford crane truck from the 70s. Thing is a death trap and you will smell like diesel smoke for days if you are anywhere around it while it's running. That's used to set up fuel tanks.
We also have a ton of old international 9200 that are on the road daily. I think they are from 02. I drive one when I'm local. I got a newer Volvo I pull tankers with too but I do long trips with that one. -
I get about 5 in my Volvo 670 pulling tanker. I run 72, I barely even feel the wind.
