Unbelievable that cost $23,000 to fix. I would have guessed like $5-6,000 tops.

Not my truck. Seemed a little steep to me to. But the parts pricing and complexity are ever increasing. Heck I could buy a brand new hood for my truck for $1700.00 and a head light at petro $19.00 lol

I have a friend that hit a small moose in Maine with an immaculate 379 Pete and the insurance company totaled it.

I had a case of bambicide last October, driving an '07 Freightliner Century Classic. Road service was called to repair the bent and leaking valve stem on the front right steer tire and reinflate the tire. I drove it another couple of weeks, with the bumper zip tied, bungied, and Gorilla taped together.

The plastic hood was cracked. All told that was a $10,000 job to replace the hood, three piece bumper, headlight assemblies, grill, etc. Fortunately the CAC wasn't damaged. Bambi left an impression of her head in the grill, but it was a glancing blow.

I can easily see more extensive and expensive repairs for a direct center hit, or taking out steering assembly, air lines, electrical, CAC, radiator, etc.

Regarding the OP, a glancing blow from an improper lane change would do no damage to frame or cause me to hesitate. Just have a good mechanic and a good body work guy look it over. If the price is reduced to account for the damage then you are good.

I would make them an offer between salvage value and low wholesale. That's all it's worth.
