I was once told to "follow me son" to get weighed (at a commercial scale). After the weigh, which was legal, scale guy said $5.00 son, I said get it from the Cop since he ordered it !

Yup. You want to weigh me, you pay for it. Bad enough you're wasting my time...you ain't digging into my pocket to satisfy your own curiosity.

As a company driver for a ltl, got pulled into us17 scalehouse in hertford nc. The officer checked out the truck and told me the hydraulic brakes were ok. I said they are pneumatic and he said no they are hydraulic. I said ok. He said he had just received this alchohol breath tester and he wanted me to breath into it. I said ok and when it read 0 he seemed surprised. I should have asked him to breath into it. Crazy, wasted about half hour.

I'm looking at my MVR, in big bold letters is a violation for failure to stop at P.O.E., I took the back way out of Ft. Morgan, Co., deputy saw me, pulled me over, had a discussion with me, escorted me to the scale, and then let the scalemaster write me the citation, I seem to recall it was 0 pts and $156.00 fine.

I figured it would be a violation. It isn't worth trying to dodge a scale close to where you got loaded at and hope the shipper doesn't load you too heavy.

The Janesville scale has cameras at every exit coming up from Illinois. There's also scale plates on the I-43N ramp, and I believe there's another camera where IL173 (can't remember the Wisconsin number) goes under I-43.

Guys claim they get pulled over then the dot tells them to follow them to the nearest scale to weigh them.

Now I cannot find anything that says you need to comply with such a ridiculous request. Honestly, if it were me... I would tell them to fly a kite! Bring the portables to me if you want to weigh me. I'm not one of those guys who hates the dot, I've never had issue with them and only ever gotten 1 ticket which was my fault. I am always nice to them and comply with any requests they have.....

I've seen it written to comply with reasonable requests but to me that is not reasonable.

Does anyone have any knowledge of this? Or experienced it?

And what happens when the closest scale is on the interstate with 34k tandem limits, but you were taking US routes as that specific state allows 36K (or more) on tandems on those roads?

i think that is probably reaching a bit, normally whenever i have come across it there has been a scale setup very close to where they pulled you over. they may drag you further if its obvious something aint right, like say a d-9 on a 5 axle rig.

also asking you to drive on a further weight restricted road and then giving you a ticket for being on that road then that would fall into what is known as entrapment, a officer cant ask you to do something illegal and then ticket you for it.
