Also, Roehl has always been pretty good about getting me home on time. Some drivers will disagree with me on that statement, but that has been my experience. I am pretty flexible and had a good working relationship with my DSR, so I think that helps.

So i am going to go out on a limb here and say that you are happy with Roehl? reading this forum is hard sometimes because it is difficult to distinguish between what is crap and what is good.

I have heard good things about Roehl but then you read that they are horrible. I take it all with a grain of salt though.

I appreciate the info and who knows maybe we'll run into each other ont the road some day.

What kind of truck do you run? Any driver niceties in it (refrigerator, microwave)? How about an APU?

I've been very satisfied with Roehl. I've noticed there seems to be two different Roehls out there. The one I know, and the bad one you'll read about on here. It's frustrating to see that and wish corporate would open their eyes and see they are losing good drivers because of it.

Taking things with a grain of salt is the key. Drivers b**ch; that's part of being a driver. Some have legit complaints, some just won't be happy anywhere.

Roehl is a good company but has its problems. Worst case scenario: you'll get free CDL training and move on. The training really is no obligation for military members. I was never asked to sign anything and nobody ever hung it over my head. I honesty believe this company is grateful to veterans and was always treated with respect.

Roehl runs Freightliner and International mid-roofs, unless you're a trainer. Most of the newer trucks are getting APUs and they come with a 1200w inverter which powers a microwave and dorm fridge with no problem, but they aren't provided. I even had a George Foreman, just ran an extension cord outside. You are pretty much allowed to outfit your truck however you want, so long as it is safe and doesn't cause any damage.

    Doc Venture,

I will be completing school through community college here in Virginia on Dec. 2nd and Roehl is currently my first choice. They do hire for National Van out of my area. Have you been seeing much movement through the I-81, I64, I95 corridor without getting layed over too much? Not too concerned about hometime, would like to see it maybe every 3-4 weeks. Not hurting too bad for cash, so I believe I can make it through this slump.

When I ran van I picked up from the paper mill in Franklin a lot, but almost always deadheaded in from the Baltimore area. Idropped off once in Stewart's Draft too, again picking up my next load in Franklin. I ran through Virginia on a regular basis though. I'd usually run down out of PA, or up out of the NC.

I have come to learn that most of the drivers that are whining and crying are guys that outta be in another occupation. More so than most jobs truck driving is a lifestyle more than a job. I have been with Roehl over a year now and find most of those complaining about Roehl probably shouldn't be driving a truck. Also today alot of people are losing thier jobs and coming to trucking in dire need of a job and money. Everyone knows that the first year of driving is tough and the pay is low. So many people blow out of driving because they need money quickly and hate being away from home. I find that older guys that are somewhat financially secure and supported by thier families do better. Most people come into this with very unrealistic hopes and that creates anger. Attitude is 90% of the job

Thanks, Etch a Sketch...I have definitely picked up on that pattern. Bills are low at home, wife has a good job ( and is behind me about 99 %), no kids. I've already had 2 careers, have handled large ground equipment in the airline business, and have a HUGE wanderlust.
    Take care,
