The hubby just started driving for Celadon a week ago. Yesterday and today he got detained quite a bit - (none of it his fault). (Is detained the proper term if he ends up just sitting around alot ?)

Anyways, today he got a call from driver manager saying his idle time was too high (and he did have the truck running as it was pretty cold outside) and they'd like to see it near 30%.( he had it near 50%)
Any advice or input on that kinda situation ? Freeze ? LOL
I think his main concern is how strict are companies usually on this type of policy ?
    Thanks !

In my opinion, if a company is concerned about Idle time, they should be focusing on the purchase of APU's for the drivers. Anything less is nothing more than corporate greed and little care about a driver.

Very true there roadmedic. JazWife, where was he when he was delayed? Yes, Celadon is cracking down on idle time. My hubby drives for them, and they have recently fired some drivers for high idle time. My hubby has been able to keep his idle time down most of the time, but he's been down south (TX, NM, etc). Who is his DM?

Wow thanks so much for the quick responses !!! You guys are the best

I just called him, and read him your responses. Thanks from him too, he's all excited that other people out there CARE ! LOL :yes2557: He was in Virgina when he was delayed, (right now on his way to Pennsylvania). Temp was in the low 30s last night so he did run it. He said DM's are Billy and Thess ? And he was wondering about the "reset" on the truck as well. He loves the idea of APU !

I have to shut the computer off right now, (gotta go walk our crazy lovable doggie).. but i'll check back in the morning

Did I mention that I love this place? :biggrin_25520:

If he gets to drive more during his specific recorded time alloted...

Let's see if I can get this out (silently saying "Uh" while typing) They start the percentages once a week that I know of, some I heard say they get the average from a month's worth.

So if he knows when it starts and gets to drive after it says 50% in that specific recording period, then it can drop back down. I can't explain it, cause it's still just a little confusing to me.

I think it shows up at 100% then slowly drops from driving. Idling brings it back up but it doesn't always mean it will make you overidle if you aren't finished with the recording time period.

Could someone else try to explain it? PLEASE!?

If I were hubby I wouldn't worry he just got into that truck I know when hubby gets back in the truck even when he is on home time for awhile it doesn't read right on his idle time but I would take to someone about it

Glad you like the forum! Sounds like he's on the 4 by 4 board to my hubby. Hubby would have been idling last night too. As a matter of fact, he did end up turning his truck on for a bit last night. It can get pretty chilly in the desert too at night!

Friday night at midnight is when the system resets, but theyu keep records of all of it. He can access his idle time on the qualcomm to be able to monitor that. It's in the options, hit the option button, scroll through with the arrow keys, when it gets to 'Active driver info' press #1. Unless he has one of the new Eagles, as he's not sure if the qualcomm is the same. They go on a monthly average for you idle time. I'm on the phone with hubby right now, as I'm typing, so this is actually coming from him!
