I am glad that he is being cooperative now...the shame game works pretty well.

I hope the items really are in storage and not sitting at Susie Q's house where her kids haveadded their own crayon and Cheerios creations.

Yea he understands he should've just used the warehouses courier or used his own. But finding your own courier as a consumer in another state can also be difficult. uShip seems like a reputable and legitimate business and we have a friend that has worked there for years and never anticipated this happening. And our friend that works there is quite pissed, but he is on the commercial sales side of things and currently dealing with other issues and took time-off from work due to family emergency. He has direct access to the C-level execs, but you see what I am saying. As a consumer who never has to do such things it's hard to know where to look and uShip made it "easier".

No, he understands he screwed up and I mentioned your post, but he said that the warehouse owner had a reliable courier for $500 from NJ to Texas and was wondering why it's a $1000 from ATL to DAL.

Because running a reputable company costs a bucket of money. Staying legal and paying a living wage to a driver is expensive. Not to mention truck payments, insurance... heck, just our license plates cost over 2k. An oil change is $300. See where I'm going.

$1000 to Dallas with a fully insured carrier is a good deal for a less-than-truckload shipment. I'd take it.

This is good advice.. and companies do not like their dirty laundry out for view of the public..

Also, do any of the news stations in your area run stories about this kind of stuff... all of our do.. and it works well for getting results...

There are a lot of consumer advocacy groups who love to take on these kind of frustrations that consumers deal with

Also, is your friend who is the director of UShip assisting you in anyway...

The ONLY reason its ONLY a grand is because the truck will be going directly through that area and has a bit of room to spare. And to be perfectly honest i don't want it. The time involved making the pick and drop them waterproofing it will most likely screw up my west texas drop costing me every bit of that 1k.

In addition to all the expense issues noted by Miss Elvee above there is the fact that your now asking someone to step right into the middle of a big mess. It is entirely likely that the deal will go sideways. What if the old transporter does not come across with the goods? Will storage fees need to be paid to get the goods released? What if there is..... And the list of potential problems goes on... If I were doing it the fee would be up front and at least 50% not refundable if I am (due to no fault of my own) unable to get the goods picked up.

In your post above you mentioned that the place your friend bought the goods from had a shipper and if I understand your post correctly your friend had his own shipper? If so, to skip over not one but two proven, known sources to go with some unknown discount guy seems really foolish at best.

When you get 3 quotes (on anything) and 1 of them is so low it seems to good to be true... Well you know the rest of the story... And that is where your stuff MAYBE ends up in a storage locker in Atlanta..

So what started out as yet another failure on "Shipping Wars" (A TV show all about how screwed up Uship is) has now turned into another episode of "Storage Wars" (A TV show about abandoned storage units) ... LOL

I really am sorry but it is hard to feel to bad when someone completely fails to do any due diligence and simply opts to go the cheapest route.

Yep i am not without empathy but the fact is people being these things on themselves.

And @HaulinCars is absolutely correct. I promise you there is storage due that must be paid before it can be released. I wouldn't be surprised if you are looking at a five hundred minimum in storage. And it's going up every day.
