Yea, but this is really a flatbed related question since you cant really mount CB antennas on a van trailer.
I was thinking because the trailer deck is aluminum and you have so much clearance that I wasn't the only person who thought it was feasible to do. -
You'd laugh harder at my WIFI antenna on the headache rack setup so that I always have wifi on my phone even on the other side of the truck stop. Really useful for wifi calling at the shipper when you are outside of the truck. The thing is a high gain omni antenna, so its basically a stack of little antennas inside of a 4ft plastic pipe with metal end caps (thats how they are made). I colored it black with a permanent marker.

Do it and post your results. Look forward to the pics and how it goes next week.
I'd suggest buying several antennas. I'm guessing they might not last real long.snowman_w900, Oxbow, johndeere4020 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'm guessing you're the pioneer of this subject.snowman_w900, Oxbow, noluck and 3 others Thank this.

Why not? They'd never hit anything back there. also 102" steel whips never break. I once had one wrap itself around a tree branch at 55mph, it broke the branch off the tree and then returned back to an almost strait line.
I think the cable and the antenna mount would break before that antenna would.. because of all of the moving around I'd have to do when I got those long loads. It would be best to mount it at the back of the trailer. Mounting it up behind the tractor would defeat any advantage since the cab would block the signals.
You'd just have to make up some kind of mount that lets the antenna base be far enough to allow for overhang of the load and to be moved around with those 4 foot overhangs.
Before I can test it I'd need to wait for some more cable to come in the mail. I can get the antenna at some CB shops. keep in mind you need a fullsize antenna like a 102" whip, any of those 4 or 5.5 feet antennas would not see any improvement being mounted that low. (I mount those on the rack since I have a midroof) -
That's fine.
Get it mounted and let us know how it goes. Last time I checked the mail service gets packages to a guy within a week or so.
Have at it. Post pics.snowman_w900, Orangees, johndeere4020 and 2 others Thank this. -
The trailer is actually probably the best place to put an antenna
-
It may be... as long as I'm not the one loading the trailer. I've got a feeling if I was loading a trailer with an antenna on it, my head would be tipped kinda sideways, wondering... what in the heck, and my forklift driving skills would go straight in the crapper. Having the spares that @MJ1657 mentioned would be handy then...DDlighttruck, MJ1657, Roberts450 and 1 other person Thank this.

I see your point. However; the guys in the CB forum could help with any issues that might arise from the project.
By the way, what WIFI antenna do you have mounted on your bangboard?
