On another note....As the part of a fleet, a truck with EGR is legal in CA.
The percentage is pretty low less than 10% (90/10 DPF/DEF vs EGR) so that's why you are/were formerly able to go into CA.
We have 35 trucks and only 2 with EGR.
I haven't been to CA since 2005, with the intention of never returning.
You still must have a minimum of EGR
And I think a minimum of 10 DPF/DEF trucks before you could operate in CA.

Erm, you give me a headache. Both trucks have this and that.

I'll take the detroit freightliner columbia. It's not a 120, century etc but it's a rig you can maintain and keep moving. But there are so many freightshakers that have been neglected and abused.

I lean towards a KW or Pete myself. But with these two choices... I rather not have any DPF at all. To be honest. I never drove them and nothing but a good pyrometer and engine intakes can already do for you to burn pretty good fuel.

The newest trucks since about 2011 have all 3 EPA systems: EGR, DPF and SCI/DEF. the earliest EGR-only motors seem pretty simple and easy to deal with by today's standards although some of the related parts are pretty pricey to replace when they take a puke (Cooler, valve, etc)

Okay I own a 2007 670 with Cummings isx, great ride, nice interior, PAIN IN THE ### MAINTENENCE #####. Im always fixing an electrical issue, or something made from cheap plastic that broke for no reason what so ever, parts are obstensively expensive, it's my second truck and I was already established when I purchased it, but I wouldn't recommend that as a first. It cost me 25000 to inframe the isx at a Volvo dealership in Albuquerque, if you have 35k buy a 10000 dollar freight shaker classic or century class with a Detroit 60 and a 10 speed. Parts are cheap, anyone will work on them, and they just keep going and going and going. That's what I started in, a 98 century with a 10 and it gave me 4 years pretty trouble free.

Update: Ended up getting a 2011 FL Cascadia/ DD15. Just hauled my 1st two loads this past Friday/Saturday. Fueling for the first time I realized that there was no DEF tank or DEF level meter on the dash. What happened to the DEF system? Actually glad it's not there, one less thing to worry about breaking down but I'm wondering why. Also, truck pulls and rides great but I'm getting a "check engine" light as soon as I exceed 65 mph. Back it down to 65 mph or less and it goes out. Anyone know what might cause this? When I first got it I noticed and took it in have checked-they said it was the fuel filter and replaced it. Was good for a little while but the issue is back. Thanks!

I agree with you about the volvo 780 or 670 I drove both of them nice and tough specialy the ishift pretty much nice and easy .. now what the bad things will make some owners opretoer go away from volvo like you said if the trucks one day need to get fix volvo dealer can do it not any mechanic can fix volvos thats big issues for the owner too much money you need to spend and don't forget the parts for volvo high price I'm sure from that and volvos has complicated software crazy . I no want to say don't buy volvos but I Wana say don't take a used one . New one volvo will be the good deal . Freightliner cascadai its not like the volvo but I believe not too much headache if the truck need to get fix and they made auto transmission nice one easy to drive
