The ELD is not the whole problem. It's the inflexibility in the HOS. Now with these rigid HOS it makes it easier for the companies to keep tabs on how drivers are using their time and also for them to plan their loads. I'll give them that. But it boils down to control and profitability. It cuts out jobs at HQ, you know folks that had to check drivers logs. It's a money grab, just like everything else. These rules were not written, nor intended for use by 1 or 2 truck companies. Just my opinion. I'm sure lots of folks won't agree with it. But when you try to dumb things down, without adequate training, this is what you get.

I used an ELD device when I was driving and it was only a pain when you screwed it up on an entry and needed to make a correction. You can make changes to these things and there are videos starting to pop up on how to hack them. I wouldn't go on to say that they are good or bad only that there is sure to be a huge increase in the number of OOS violations after the deadline. The FMCSA wont care if you thought you didn't need to have one. They wont care if you don't fully understand how to use it. There are hundreds of companies out there trying to jump into this market and not all of these devices are going to meet the specs. The dot inspectors are in no way going to know how to operate all the different models and you will be put OOS if you can't show them what they want to see. The actual ELD mandate is 516 pages of not so easy reading. You can download the PDF version below. The two exceptions are shown on page 8 paragraph 3. sort of, they are about compliance with hours of service.Western flyer Thanks this. -
The problem is many drivers's lower lip quivers and the bones turn to liquid weakness when it becomes necessary to say the word "No" to a grinch dispatcher who has yet to come out of the cave. No single staff member should have that fear, overbearing power or be able to even imply that they have the firing ability to the poor POS Driver caught in between several parties and easily blamed for being late. Safety in one corner bleats. But I have never ever in my life time heard safety assert themselves. It's almost they have to go down to OZ and get a freaking courage before they can stand up for their effermite selves.
Logbook work arounds arrive in the office, lip service is paid to threats to correct the #### thing. But silence reigns when everyone realized that this steamping piple of papers cannot ever be corrected because Dear Uncle Sam started draining oil from that tractor5 in which wheels shoul dbe turnintgg and freight is rolling at that hour o=rolling. Easily proven via camera at a subponea.
Why are you talking about pulling camera video on a freaking Oil Cheange Heavy? What are you smoking?
It's pretty important when it's TWO oil changes in just about most of a three week period. At 15000 miles between oil changes and not a blessed teammate in sight. That was how they got me once.Western flyer and rocknroll81 Thank this.
