I go for quickest also. I will also run bypass highways to avoid city congestion even if it is neither the shortest or quickest but happens to be the easiest. The 840 going around Nashville being a prime example.

Blatant stuff like that and the 5 trailer tires I recently had to get replaced needs to start getting back to the last driver that pulled the trailer. Being an inconsiderate PITA to the next driver is one thing, but it also means that driver was driving faulty equipment which could lead to CSA points against the company.

In my case, the last driver to pull the trailer was looked up, but no clue if the driver was even spoken to.

That's why your miles are a little skewed, it makes total sense though. I don't add my deadhead miles home into the equation. I'm constantly going the 290 miles from Jacksonville or the 160 miles from Orlando home. For me, I figure I'm going home, that's good enough for me.

The difference between odometer and paid miles isn't even a blip on my radar. I knew that zip code or HHG miles were commonplace in this segment of the industry and was fine with it so I didn't even care how much of a difference there was.

The bottom line IS the bottom line and I am satisfied with the money I earned for the miles I drove even if some of those miles were "free".

My actual miles won't match up well to my calculated miles because I almost never stay at or near the warehouse when I'm done making a delivery. Especially if I think I'm done driving for the day. When I get up in the morning, I want to be able to drop the kids off at the pool, get some breakfast, and get some coffee. It's a rare warehouse yard that affords all three.

I just spent the night at BH Groveport, which is unusual for me. But I'm about to bobtail down to the Pilot in Circleville (23 miles away) for coffee and breakfast and maybe a shower. Unless I'm very far away from the closest truck stop (e.g. Miami) or unless I think there's a better-than-average chance that I'll be told to pick up from where I delivered (e.g. BH Groveport), I'll roll on down the road.

Give it time and there will be someone who pops in to say that their company pays them for all miles the truck moves, even the miles the driver chooses to drive for their own needs.

And CSA points against the company will mean increased attention from law enforcement for the rest of you thanks to what some other idiot did.

That's why I pitch such a fit around my place for such things as pulling empties around with placards showing.

I can't imagine there are many successful companies that allow that. Would be painfully easy to drive 20% extra every trip to pad out the mileage and the paycheck.

While not many, there are a few that actually DO pay hub miles. Of course they won't allow the vehicle to be used for personal errands, nor will they pay a driver for using poor judgement in routing, and rightfully so.
As far as HHG miles being part of it, that's not true anymore, most pay PC Miler and a lot pay practical miles.

I didn't come on here to ridicule anyone or the company. I spoke to Rusty last week because I'm interested in the company. With 25 yrs experience I was a little shocked by the mileage pay and then noticed all those unpaid miles that were posted. It was nothing more then an observation.
