Got a delivery to do thursday. Coming down from waterbury headed to columbus ave in freeport. Does NYDOT allow for that or are 53's through traffic only? I know long island can be a pita for this type of thing. Its an experimental run for my company.

    Thanks for any help.

    Off sunrise highway/27?

On the island you'll be fine... Long as you don't hit anything it won't be an issue.

    Where you work in Waterbury?

I work out of Wisconsin. The company I work for has been expanding and looking extend its reach into the northeast. I have ZERO desire to go onto the island....lol. The place I'm delivering to is a small retail outfit and I'm not certain I can even get out if I pull down the street. Everything I read had been confusing to me. I found a link on the NYC.gov that looked like they didn't want anything over 55' on local routes. Beats me..... figured I'd ask. Last thing I want is a problem.

Clarification. Yes, it is off 27. GPS has me driving past the place doing some turn around to back track to the drop. The way I'm routed in had me coming in from the opposite direction. (Thus the turn around) I'm not certain if side street travel for the turn around is a no no. ... my last drop tomorrow is in Waterbury and i hope to cross over to LI early Thursday to beat traffic.

I work for an Omaha meat Packer and have done restaurant drops on the island and NYC with a 53 ..never been an issue .
NYC generally doesent get pissy about 53s until ya get into lower Manhattan and enforcement is spotty at best .

Google Earth every turn, every low clearance, stick to left/middle lane under bridges. And remember....clearance signs posted on far right are the heights of shoulder and cross beams. If u come across one posted in the middle saying under 13 '9....stop. Swing wide as u cut people off. Everybody hates that your driving a big rig. They honk if u make a turn too slowly. Stay away from Parkways! Then enjoy blindside backing while on the wrong way on a busy street with thousands of cars wondering how u got a licence to drive. Then sleep in Brooklyn with a knife in your hand waiting eagerly for your 8 split to be over so u can get the heck outta of there. The relief as you cross over the bridge with the city in your mirrors fading into the fog saying to yourself I Did It! Im Alive! Good luck.
