I'm looking to break away from being leased on with a carrier and fully go out on my own, my authority and my trailer(dry van).

A lot of the trailers I find seem to be over 10 years old, a ton right at that 11 mark. I'm a bit leery to get something older than 10 years due to experiences I had as a company driver with Schneider...lost a few good loads due to the shipper refusing to load whatever 11 year old trailer I had that day.

So, are you guys running into these problems? What other advice can you guys offer up on buying a box?

    Thanks!

    Get a reefer.

It's not as silly as some might think. That Sherwin Williams Paint going to Norfolk in winter needs to keep warm. I just dont;og Many times I'll stopping.

If you want California Freight look into reefers with a slide spread axles shoehorned into a CA Legal load via wheelbase weights etd. You will want to pay attention to your ox-size capacious box now saying this weight, this load not going to happen and sort aa

Do not let your fleet driver out of your sight

Get a beefed up floor for it. Punching nail gun into it is no fun, but if it means you get to go 2000 miles to a bullet manufactorer with rolls of brass caisng material versus waiting in the woodshed for the rains to quit pouring then you are not doing too bad. Get a tow motor floor into it. Otherwise your standard wall insulation gets bashed about and destroyed.

Do purchase USCCA Insurance Platinum in Super. That way ANY self defense situation, words, guns, blades, knifes, stick and anything. It provides important support such as Bond Money to get out of jail. I strongly consider it.

That is all I have for tonight, There will be more. But first things first...

Get a food grade plate van with Hendrickson suspension.

I went new because new was about 12 grand more than used one with wall gouges in and out, recaps and brakes good enough for a sale.

Are you trolling? There is a feature called ignore. Put on that inside my box and you will no longer have to ask yourself such outlandish questions of those whose posts do not agree with your thinking.

As much as I fight those who choose to drink and drive, your thought can go bye bye as you eff yourself.

    Good day Sir.

I bought a new 2014 Utility locally a guy was trying to get rid of. I looked at older trailers, but didn't want to hear the "we need newer than 10 years" stuff, and I didn't want to deal with a lot of maint issues right off the bat. I paid 22k for it, but it's really nice. It's vented and has the tire pumpers, and was well taken care of. It's really about what fits in your budget. Some guys do fine with older (< 10k), some prefer newer. What I found in my market is that the 3 or 4 yr old ones were in the upper teens to low 20's, and the 10+ yr old ones were any where from 7 to 15K.

No, not trolling, just trying to follow along in your post. Just seemed to jump around in thought.

Then, at the end you said That's all I have for tonight. Thinking to myself you've had enough and are ready for the pillow.

    That's all.

Oh the fork lift jockeys will make those pristine new trailer walls look like a proper freight trailer before you know it. I'll tell you what I was told when I got a new one. Just walk around it and smack it several times in a few places with a ball peen hammer already. Get it over with now.

I'm not so bothered by little dings here and there that mine has now. Don't get me wrong. I still get pissed and raise hell when somebody ####s up a logistics post with a fork.

But it's freight. It happens. Nothing you can do but fix it and go on with life. Here's a nice pile of busted up logistics posts that came out of my brand new van trailer. They don't stay new forever....

Mines pretty clean still after 2 years of use. A few dents from the inside visible on the exterior but nothing tore up.

Guys really are more careful when I tell them it's not a company trailer.
