I'm pretty sure unplugging it will lock the brakes on trailer and he won't be able to back up. Smdh!!

Has to be. How can electric brakes lock when they have nothing to give them juice?

Um no these aren't air brakes the only thing unplugging it would do is not allow the lights to work

IMG_8683.PNG IMG_8684.PNG Gotta love those Dodge trucks....
    2008 Dodge 4500 with 43,000 miles.
Thank God my uncle was only backing up when he lost the ability to steer the truck. I personally seen this happen. And the sad part is my cousin who owns it stopped to get a new one at the Dodge dealer, opened the box on the counter and out came a rusty tie rod broke just like this one..... wonder who stuck that back on the shelf?

Does your truck by chance have hydra boost on the brakes? Simply asking do to my own personal experience with other vehicles over the years that had hydra boost. Had some that when loaded and you hit the brakes would stiffen up the steering if just idling.

I gotta be honest I don't know, I'm sure I will get some flak from guys especially @ohiobred but I don't pay particular attention to details such as that, I have a mechanic that has been servicing my trucks for quite a few years, I pretty much go to him for all things mechanical, never been to mechanically inclined, I do know the basics, and can do the basics of mechanics, but I will have to ask or if you can explain how I could find out that would be great as well. Ok so let the general flogging begin lets hear it from everyone, about another guy who just drives a truck and doesn't know how to fix it.. well that's what roadside assistance is for and service facilities. Anyway I will look into that and see if there is an issue and get back to you on that

No flogging neighbor, not everyone knows the mechanics of a vehicle, but that doesn't mean they can't drive said vehicle and be good at it. I don't own a dodge, haven't looked under the hood of a dodge, so I have no clue about them other than what little bit I drove my cousins 4500. On hydra boost instead of using vacuum assisted brakes, they used hydraulics powered by the power steering pump. So the pump actually fed the power steering and the brakes, I have personally driving these set ups years ago and had the steering or brakes to be stiff at one point. That's why I was asking. I only rebuilt 1 hydra boost on a 1 ton and that has been a good 20+ yrs ago.

yes just about any diesel that uses hydro brakes will have a hydro boost or a vacuum pump. I dont know about your truck but i would think that if the hydro boost was going bad it would be hard to steer all the time. open the hood and look where the master brake cylinder is. if the booster has lines coming from the power steering pump then you have a hydro boost. most light truck/suv that had the option of getting a diesel from the factory, will have a hydro boost. even the gassers
