Don't worry. Maryland is not afraid to start writing tickets. 45 is about what Im used to for small overweights in that area.
I once destroyed a set of scales in VA and recieved a 3000 dollar ticket against the company on that horrible day. The could only write 3000 dollars against 137500 because that was where the load cells failed at across the board on gross weight. It will take two life times for a trucking company to pay off axle overs there too. So they were kind and just wrote the gross. I had a valid permit for 100K gross weights for that kind of work (Containers) in two states. But that day they laughed it off. I can still here and see the 4 smokies laughing while leaning on the tables in that coop. A terrible day. whatever the damage, they fixed it pretty good and fast. No trouble.RedRover Thanks this. -
Is that really how much it typically is?. I have gotten in a panic from being a couple hundred over. $45 is cheap compared to the waste of time and hassle of going back and fighting with the shipper to rework a load.RedRover Thanks this.

Overweight on axle
$0.02 per pound on first 500 pounds
$0.05 per pound on second 500 pounds
First 1000 pounds $35.00
$0.10 per pound for each pound over 1000 -
I dont recommand that kind of thinking, being overweight in maryland will usually mean a level 1 inspection.i try not to mess with md inspectors, they r freaking nazis at least the ones around baltimore I95,I83 and I70Redtwin Thanks this.

I got tagged in MO 3 weeks ago. I slacked and didnt weigh the load as most cashiers have issues with split axle weighs. Bills said 43k or so. I grossed 87 and change. Shippers scale was off weighing the bundles or loader put 3 extra bundles on me. Not sure which. 6550k over after exemptions. They let me slide on the axles being over. Got a level 3 out of it.
From what i understand there is no points associated with overweight. -
No points or anything for that, so not to worry.
$45 is miniscule. I got one for $7000 once.thiblade and BigTennOTR Thank this. -

Sure did.
About 13 years ago I had an enormous granite block on a 50 tone RGN. The company got Baltimore city permits since we were hauling these from the marine terminal to a granite shop in town.
Apparently, there's about 2000' of COUNTY road in front of the entrance to the marine terminal.daf105paccar Thanks this.
