I run recaps on my drives. I don't run the southern tier of states during the summer. I don't like the weather above 90 degrees.
-
FYI, when a recap peels off and hits the vehicle down in the belly of the trailer, you'll wish you put new tires on your drives.
RoadRanger^^, KANSAS TRANSIT, spyder7723 and 2 others Thank this. -
I have as much confidence in recaps as I do in new tires. I've seen new tires peel also.
-
Check the rolling resistance with the cheap tires before you buy them. The fuel mileage you could loose will pay for the good tires in less than a year in many cases. America moves by truck.com has a rolling resistance chart or use Michelins tool box calculator to compare what you have vs what you plan to get. Full retail on the Michelin are about $600 but if you find a discount program they are much less. My steers XZA2 Energy 295/60R22.5 were only $350 installed at my company shop.
KANSAS TRANSIT and Terry270 Thank this. -
I had them on by I was get prices for 850 a tire crazy and I think they are only 16 ply and 65 mph speed limit
-
I will never put recaps on my truck your not saving that much money .. maybe a trailer but never a drive tire one 90- 100 degree day and your calling road side
sxdime Thanks this. -
To each his own. It's your dime for the damage claim when a cap peels. General rule of thumb...New Steer and Drive Tires, worn ones to the recapper for the Trailer.

I agree with you a 100% and don't go cheap on your steer tires one blowout could cost you your life or a 10,000 dollar hood

The speed rating did change but I found a spec sheet some time ago from Michelin that showed a sliding speed rating. It was still70- 75 at roughly 14,000lbs. I couldn't find that spec sheet when I just now looked, it did show 65 currently. Those Continental tires are supposedly good tires. USAL uses them all the way around their rigs.crb Thanks this.
