Some say up to 50% ... IF that's the case, everyone wants to be a freight broker and live an easy life. I'd also want to set myself up at home and broker the freight not leaving my porch.

Brokering is too competitive for 50% to be the norm. One off loads here and there, sure. That's like a trucker claiming they get $7 a mile on 400 mile van loads. Once in a while, sure. Average? No.

However, the question to ask, of which answer I am not certain of, is whether or not what a shipper pays to a broker should or should not be transparent. If yes, at least the argument "That's all I got in it" would be gone.
For example in real estate it is all transparent: listed property prices. Everyone knows whatever everybody takes out of transaction.

That's the competitive pressure brokers are now facing with companies like Uber and convoy offering transparency for 5% of the money.

Good for us. Although, some say it is none of our business to know what they really got in it. I kindof agree, but I can sure use that info to my advantage.

Speaking of convoy, They paid me nicely taking a water load out of Pleasant Prairie WI to Columbus, OH lately. And they can pay the next day without any fees. If them Ubers are to be the same; bid on their apps and get paid the next day the whole thing, let's go for it.

As long as rates are set by demand I don't care one way or another. I do prefer to speak with a human when booking though. Never booked from uber or convoy. Do they have actual people or is it all automated? I would never book anything from an automated system. Freight is just too dynamic for that even ordinary box and reefer freight.

Convoy has got people. I think they reside in Seattle, WA. Nice and young and polite. You can call them and ask questions. Uber I have not dealt with yet.
