It works even better if about half of them blink occasionally in a random pattern and at random blink speeds

Big Don and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.

Blue is hard on the eyes. The blue spectrum bounces around in the eye increasing fatigue. Warm colors, Amber, orange, reds tend to be easier as they don't bounce as much

For me I can't do blue as it blurrs and "stars" making things very hard to see. That's the bounce factor.

That doesn't look bad. My old car all the numbers and marks on the gauges lit up red too. It wasn't a "crisp" red like that either, more of a glow.

    Yeah well there is that....

Personally I have less than no use for anything with that hood ornament on it and rarely need their drivers around much more.. They probably feel the same about me....

A soft amber has been tested and proven to be the best all around dash lighting.
It's more of a neutral tone and puts less strain on the eyes for night driving.
Red dash lights bounce to much and blue is more of a relaxed color that can actually make your eyes tired.
