Your absolutely correct! and when I encounter this situation I usually respond calmly and with a slightly puzzled look and ask them " where on earth do you get the idea it's ok to speak to me like that" sometimes that's enough to defuse this situation sometimes you you have to take it a step further and ask for their supervisors name and sometimes you even have to go to the supervisors boss. Either way make sure you follow through in a calm and professional manner even as just one person you can make a difference.

I'll tell you in another situation that comes to mind with a gate guard who was very disrespectful. I choose not to say a word to them and waited till I got into the warehouse and spoke to manager inside.
On they way out it was now " may I please see your BOL" Thank You Sir have a nice day" and it wasn't even said in a condescending way lol.
Each of these situations you'll have to read and take the appropriate action.
I've been in situations with gate guards so bad like this place in Pittsburgh I went to a grocery house that the manager called out to gate requesting the presence of said guard for an immediate sit down between the three of us.
In this situation I was meet at the recieving office manager with a oh well attitude so I had to take the second step and go to their boss. None of those jackwads said a word to me on the way out. Lol
The thing is if you don't take appropriate action against these dbags you'll continue to encounter it every time you show up.

Just keep in mind the collusion between employees and their supervisors runs so high in the chain of command sometimes that you'll sometimes have to take your complaint all the way up to the corporate office.
Obviously whatever action you decide to take always do it with the utmost professionalism.

Blueneck, imo I think what you are experiencing is not racism, it's more like the piss poor attitude towards truck drivers in general, and it happens in all kinds of different types of trucking, I am a white guy and the vast majority of my past confrontations have been with other whites i.e. other drivers, dispatchers, security peeps, or shippers/recievers, I think some of them just don't like truckers or themselves for that matter.

Yep, sounded more like elitism than racism. The OP didn't point out any statements made that were do to his skin color.

I think racism is deplorable and over playing the race card just causes legitimate racist complaints to get ignored.
