Back hauls don't come from brokers. They're a bonus to the contract carrier that comes from their direct shipper. I've hauled some cheap loads from brokers to get back into a better lane but I've never hauled a back haul from one.
I also think it's a broker perpetrated myth that most people just use spot market to get back to their good stuff. I regularly compete with huge national expedite companies who are bidding on the same loads I am from a big three lettered brokerage. And it's not always cheap even when the lowest price carrier wins the bid. There are a lot of brokers out here who have good contract lanes and not just leftover garbage.
Carrier / agent?

"make us drivers work like horses and underpay us."
Is it a brokerage, dispatcher or steering wheel attendant? Just curious because ./credibility -
Well, had no idea my post had so many responses, mostly nothing to do with the original question. Asked about being a broker agent and it turned into
'discussion ' on using load boards. And how I've evidently failed...didn't realize that. Grew from 1 truck to 7 in four mostly lean years, but ok. I'll just keep plugging away, and if anyone does have any relevant comments to the original post/question, feel free to comment.p608 Thanks this. -
You're definitely not crazy. The most important thing is to sign up with the right brokerage. I actually think you'll have a pretty easy time getting someone to sign you up as an agent. You're looking for a brokerage with a smaller number of agents, an old MC number, a strong reputation and a 60/40 deal (your way).osumike33 Thanks this.

From being an owner operator, i learned that working off of load boards you are getting the bottom of the barrel cheap freight. Then again that was about 2 years ago, I dont know what freight looks like off of loadboards now

My opinion if that's all you ever got from load boards you didn't learn anything and are better off not booking spot freight.
Mr_Lindley Thanks this.
