    Okay guys and gals,

    Here's my deal...

18 months experience with reefer and van and considering a switch.

Currently, I run for an o/o for landstar pulling a company van. Paid on percentage. Self dispatch. Boss is awesome, no problems with time off usually every 7-10 days. 09 international pushing 1.1 million, but runs right. W-2. Very fair pay. On pace to do ~65k gross.

My boss and I have communicated about me running a flat, possibly. I love the idea. That's what I see myself doing in this industry. I need to do some physical work. I'm getting chubby.

Now, what I'm afraid of is a steep dropoff of freight volume. I don't want to take a paycut to run flatbed. I don't mind if I don't make much more money, but drive less miles, but ultimately, the goal over time is for income to grow.

    Opinions, please and thank you...

Company driver here that does tanks and I'm on pace to gross about 65k this year. Maybe a hair less but still. Tanks are awesome. You get some physical work climbing up the ladder and pulling hoses, but nothing to extreme at all. I love it!

Not sure what rates are like for independents or o/o but I'm sure it outpaces van and reefer. Lot of deadhead with tanks tho

I love the job I have now. No micromanaging at ALL. I dispatch myself, route myself, choose where I fuel. I go home when I want. I can't see myself being a true company driver, at this time.

And the pay rates in Tucson are garbage, for the most part.

But, I appreciate your opinion. And tanks do intrigue me

Another vote for tanks. Best way to truck in my opinion.

Superior Carriers has some type of yard in Benson, not sure how big or what it is as I've never been there but worth a shot if interested in tanker.

But I can't really do tanks with my current gig. Short of some chemical tanks I can run for garbage rates through landstar.

I thought you were debating a total change, my apologies if I misread that.

    Do you have flatbed experience?
The extent of my experience is strapping bricks and sod, and I see some crazy securement on flatbeds.
I would assume the better paying loads are going to be ones that are difficult, might be a steep learning curve.

I have driven flat, while it isn't a bad job it doesn't pay as much as tanker, at least in my opinion.
