Monday was my last day at my job work for a company called precision walls in Greensboro North Carolina I drove a F450 flatbed for for a year delivering material. I got my Permit before I started but didn't get the CDL. I need it more than ever, I stop my pursuit because I thought this was going to be my stop for a long time. Boy was I wrong, I belong on the road it's the only place I feel wonderful, the sights, smells, and people I pass make my day. (Chinatown) if your reading this I need help

Can you afford private cdl school? The state will pay for it since you're laid off.
If you need to get started sooner, then look at trucking company schools.
East-West Inc. (www.goeastwestinc.com) is located in Swannanoa,NC. Dry van trucking. One week of classroom then hit the road doing a few local runs, then 10 - 12 California turns with your trainer. Don't know the details on meals, lodging at Swannanoa during classroom training. I believe you're on the payroll from day one; the day classes start. Can run coast to coast or stay east.

Millis Transfer - Eden,NC and you will need $500.00 processing fee to get started. Eastern states running.

Veriha Trucking - home weekends or can stay out longer. Their school in Marinette,WI and provides transportation to get there. Meals & lodging provided. Eastern states running.

Jim Palmer Trucking - coast to coast refrigerated trucking. School in Missoula,Montana and transportation, meals, lodging provided.

Contract Freighters (www.cfidrive.com) - coast to coast dry van trucking. School in Joplin,MO; transportation, meals, lodging provided.

If you need more names, let me know. Some take longer than others to get processed and get started. You can get more details from the companies such as regional runs, etc. if that interests you.

Willing to move? This is a pretty good paying mail hauling gig, doesn't look like their hiring in ur area, but it changes frequently (I keep checking for my area), and they will help you get ur CDL. They also have some straight truck runs once in a while.

Oh yeah, on their site, click on job listing, then click "find jobs" but leave city, state blank and it'll show all open jobs. Back to Mccormick site, click on "driver education" for CDL info. U.S. mail pays better than most driving jobs and you get home a lot more, best of luck.

A word about US Mail. You WILL be on time to the MINUTE. And the speeds are excessively governed to around 58 or so. I had run US Mail with a 100+ mph truck and barely made my required arrivals to assigned drop spots. Most of them were 4 minutes or so early for which I got chewed out. (For dropping the trailer into that known spot.) There is no way I would run US Mail now, there is a big dogfight over certain very large contractors to the US Post due to approx billions in overruns.

Hmmm, been years ago,but when I did mail (believe it or not) the daycab I had would peg the speedo, cause like you said,we were never late. Fastest daycab I ever drove or saw for that matter. I did not know USPS forced contractors to cut their trucks down.

If you don't have your class A cdl just the permit. Any Lowe's or home Depot will probably take you and help you obtain the full CDL for straight trucks( always hiring in my area). Pay will suck, but better than nothing if you just got laid off. Another option talk to any bulk oil or propane companies around you, most of their trucks will be single or tandem straight trucks. Some may be willing to help you out( getting CDL and hazmat). Just a thought to get you stable income so you can search for OTR if that's your goal. I know what it's like being in between jobs when your the bread winner. Best of luck to you.
