Them 3.90's sure helped out there as the other truck may have been geared higher.

    @cnsper

I loved your OP but I'd like to see more details. More as in don't let the thread die, keep expounding on it.

Hell I would even like to see more of what went wrong chronicled at the hi outfit you were with.

I just like diary type threads for people to learn from. Keep it coming and thanks for sharing.

Yeah my life on here in detail is not happening.

As to what was wrong with the heavy haul outfit. Cheap and too outlaw in the way they did things. Just got fed up. But I have no regrets, I was after experience not money. I got that there. Once you hone your craft the money will come.

I could not have moved near the variety of stuff that I did there.

Thought I would post some info about obtaining your authority.

One thing that I have to say about all the threads asking what is next or what do I need? If you have to ask you have not done your homework and are not ready to obtain your own authority. Hate me if you want but I think you are an imbecile if you do not know what you need beforehand. Getting spoon fed from the beginning is not helping you. The FMCSA spells it out pretty well, if you are not willing to take the time to read beforehand you will suck at running your business.

Last thing is be prepared to sacrifice. Not like staying out 4 weeks instead of three. I mean real sacrifice like no reliable paycheck for months. Personally I have not had a steady one for 6 months because my goals require me to have enough cash to repair or replace my truck if needed. My first goal is 20k in the bank and I am half way there. You can breathe easier when that happens.

First off the calls have not been that bad. Mostly factoring companies that are shocked to hear that I don't need them. You all jumping in without reserves are the ones creating this market so no whining about factoring companies.

My first BOC-3 call was a woman telling me what I needed and then stating that the government required a one time $99 fee. I started laughing outloud and she hung up. I looked on the list of registered agents and the first one was in my home state so I picked them to look at first. $25 to start and $0 annual fee but I will have to pay $50 for every document that I am served with. If I never get served I never pay again.

The next call came from something like Foley Services. This guy was trying to make me think the government required him to go over things with me. I told him the government does not require him to do #### with me. Next day another guy calls from there and I politely tell him what I think of their tactics. Three days later a gal from the same place calls and I went off. She said something about her behaving professionally and I can't talk to her like that. What did I say that was so bad? This is the third ####ing call from you guys. After her whining I said that's too bad maybe you guys will finally get the ####ing hint. I'll put you on the do nit call list. Thank you

Ok so the BOC-3 is taken care of with processagent.com. Now I need a consortium. Because of a past employer I knew about safetracsolutions.com. and that they are located in my home state. Keep the money local if I can.

Now the reason for using Safetrac Solutions was because I did not want to deal with driver qualification files. For $21 a month per driver they do all the driver qualification stuff, monitor expiring licenses, med cards etc. They even take care of the yearly driver paperwork. The drug screening and consortium is taken care of. I think it is like $50 for randoms. They also pay for your dot physicals. So driver qualifications, consortium and dot physicals all taken care of for about what most places charge for a consortium.

They also have very neat log books for $4 each.

For those looking to get your own authority, the only money they require or specify is the $300 application fee.

But you are learning this before starting the process not before your new entrant audit.

I get why you're reluctant to share details- from the initial move out to Montana to today; 5 years? 10 years?
To me it's even more impressive you said you went from building web sites to driving a Dodge to flatbed/heavy haul to O/O. That journey doesn't happen overnight.

After talking with cluck for a few months I realized that getting your own authority isn't that hard or cost too much. People on here make it sound like it costs extreme Amounts
