Yessir... To each their own. The reason I don't like texting is because I have big thumbs and everyone that would normally text me wants to have an entire conversation through text, it's not just one or two messages. And this is why I have mine set up the way I want.

I'm on hiatus at the moment, pending treatment of a tricky case of allergy-induced asthma. In the event that I am unable to return to trucking, I entered my information into a website that allows you to explore education options (ECPI, UTI, what-have-you). BIG mistake. I was almost immediately bombarded and woken up with non-stop calls and texts from college admissions people for a couple weeks.

What was worse, no one ever really seemed to finish with me, so they kept calling. Even after it was determined their program was not right for me, they continued to call. That was when I downloaded these two apps.

I got into a little trouble with spammers when I tried out a nice little credit card on a whim. Turned out it was administered by indian lands out west in Portland Oregon specifically. Took them 7 months to quit draining my minutes calling.

I finally swapped numbers until I found a fresh quiet unissued phone number and two seperate phones with sim cards removed and destroyed until I found a third one that appeared to be quiet also. Apps installed and boom. Peace and quiet. But they were persistent. I never used that silly card once I found out the real terms that was not disclosed for a variety of reasons not within the scope of this converstation.

Telemarketers may be able to call cell phones, but if you register your number with the national DO NOT CALL LIST, they can't. And it's a life time enrollment. No need to update yearly.

Haven't received a telemarketing call in YEARS

As soon as I stopped answering my phone for numbers I didn't recognize, I stopped getting telemarketing calls. I figure if the person on the other end urgently needs to contact me, they'll leave a voicemail. Apart from a random telemarketer call once every couple months my phone is quiet. Guess the telemarketers just figure my number isn't active since I never pick up.

My old man has been registered for Do Not Call and still gets these calls consistently, even though I have seen and heard him tell these people to f--k off when they call. They don't listen. I've tried telling him to just ditch the landline and get a smartphone with these apps, but he doesn't want to. But we're straying from the topic...:lurk:

Ive registered since they started. There was only 60K numbers when I threw my hat in.

What the telemarketers are doing to bypass the DNCL, is literally a IP voice call over internet or a 844 toll free number call. Poof. RING! Nothing traced back to them specifically.

Complaining to DNCL until blue in the face does nothing. Changing cheap disposible phones and swapping numbers a few times a year buys months of peace, provided YOU do not give out that number to doctors, sweepstakes etc. *(Cashiers in the store are really bad about this. NUmber please. No, deaf. move along finish sale.)

I am not far from tossing the silly phone entirely. I use a relay service when making calls. Everything else goes back to the 60's way of talking with my friends and family. If they have something to say, they can drop by or write. No big deal. I'll put on some good coffee.

Ah, but might we not be able to do the same to block them by not having a landline, only having IP voice calls through Internet?

i dont know the answer to that yet. i removed the land line after robocallers in 2007 buried us. we paid a disgusting amount for old fashioned copper service here in Arkansas, about 160 total. I understand the last copper exchange was torn out in Brinkley years ago. All calls are now routed through small boxes not much bigger than your medicine cabinet filled with digital parts onto fiber. Political robo callers were the worst.
