Driver ran truck off road and over a pile of rocks, broke oil pan and locked the 1994 3406 E up tight. Number 3 sleeve is scratched, head appears ok, don't know if rods got hot enough to shrink them or not. Crank is junk. Before this the motor was a real screamer. Most powerful truck we've ever owned.

Mechanic wants to rebuild a 2003 MBN C-15 he has. He will transfer everything from the old motor that will fit. It does not have an ecm, nor a head. He's trying to tell me that this will be cheaper and be a better motor in the long run.

From what i read this motor isn't so good.

I'm for sending rods out to get checked, replacing the #3 liner, used crank, new rings and bearings all around, put the head back on and go on down the road.

    Any suggestions or violent reactions?

    Thanks in advance.

Moving to the C-15 I bet you are going to be into the dash changing instruments and such. Much easier to rebuild what you already have.

Mechanic says not. He claims we'll run the old ecm, injectors, cam and related. I explained to him my concerns, he smiled and said "don't worry, I'll take care of you".......

I will add that's he's been a most trusted mechanic and has become a friend, so.

Reading between the lines he wants to put the e-model's head etc on the mbn bottom end. It's not a bad idea. All that was wrong with an mbn was in the head and ecm and all that was an issue with early e model's was in the bottom end. The mbn does have a little higher compression pistons though so he might have to check on that. Theoretically everthing should interchange but those are famous last words lol lf you have faith in him l wouldn't be scared to go that route.

If I built the E model I would put all 6 liner packs in it. That assures you have good rods. I would also line bore the block before setting a good used crank in it. I would also remove the galley plugs and flush all the oil galleys.

That's part of why he said it'd be cheaper to do the C-15 block he had. Wouldn't need to do all that.

I agree with him, and the MBN will be stronger on the bottom. I would want the lower compression ratio piston of the two. I can't remember the liner pack number off the top of my head
