I got transferred to local deliveries with my company so I'd be home more. It's actually pretty slick, M-F, four nights in my truck then 3 nights home, and paid by the hour. My wife certainly is happier. Anyway I delivered to Pepsi in Craig Colorado yesterday and figure I might be seeing that place again. It's a nice drive, I-70 to just past Eisenhower tunnel then Co 6 north to US 40. Very pretty, at least in June, not sure what it will be like come Winter. So my question is do any of you folks know places I can stop along the way?I didn't see anything on Truckers Path. I didn't notice any truck stops after I-70, and only a few wide spots in the road where people pull over. I don't know if I'll get hassled for trying to stay overnight at one of these. There was one rest area about 2 miles from Craig with room for maybe a dozen trucks and glorified outhouses for "facilities." What I'd really like it someplace I can park near Steamboat and walk into town.

    Any suggestions?

The only thing that I could see would possibly be the Walmart on the south into town. It's kind of an odd-shaped lot but there was some trucks that were parked there on Google maps

You were on Hwy 9 and US 40, not 6. Expect to become an expert on chaining in the winter, Rabbit Ears is a mandatory chain-up area, and it happens frequently, it's also one of the most dangerous passes in Colorado, the speed limit is there for a reason (Colorado State Patrol will follow you to the bottom of the hill and stop you), and if you notice, there is only one truck ramp, and it's hidden. Probably twice a month, year round, there's a truck accident on Rabbit Ears. There is a parking area on 40 N. of Kremmling by Wolford Res., in the summer there's no truck parking because it can be packed. There's really no place in Steamboat to park a semi and wander around, Hwy 9 and US 40 in that area are primarily touristy places. Both are fun roads, mind the speed limit and heed the deer/elk warnings, multiple agencies patrol it, the area closer to Silverthorne they do enforce the speed limit aggressively. Most of those dirt wide spots on 40 you can safely park for the night, the ones on Rabbit Ears and Muddy Gap you can park and they will leave you alone.

Thanks folks. Truckers path mentioned the Walmart but said no truck or overnight parking. Assuming I go back there I'll check it out. Thanks for the heads up about Rabbit Ears. It didn't look too scary in June, but I'm sure it's different in Winter. Guess I'll have to learn to hang iron. I was planning to anyway being OTR but now I'm regional, Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana, it's going to be a must.

Colorado, Wyoming and Montana, that's where I learned how to hang iron. Back in the early 70s. Have fun.
