I don't want to slip seat anymore.

    Alright guys, I work for an LTL company. I'm a recent "CDL Graduate"

    I hate to sound like a picky little ####### because I'm doing great.

    I get 2,500 miles a week and I'm home in bed every morning. I also make .48 CPM

    I run to the exact same place every night and work a 12 hour day.
    It's to far away from home so I rent a room two hours away from home.

    Part of me wants to live in a #### truck, make a little less and not be in trucks that smell like rotting fish with 1.6 million miles on them.

    Should I shut up and enjoy my gig? I hate sounding like a spoiled brat. But, Part of me would like to explore more then just from terminal to terminal with a Bluetooth speaker.

    That's a question only you can answer. Every driving job is going to have it's pros and cons and every individual has their own set of priorities and needs and wants.

    I think I'd rather find a gig that's regional or something where you're home every weekend. You said you're off every night but stay in a rented room because it's too far from home? Doesn't seem worth it to me. Your CPM might be a little lower but you'll have your own truck, no need to rent a room and no 2hr commute and basically still have the same "home time" you have now.

    That's what my thought it, During the week it's not like I can do anything anyways. My schedule is completely flipped to my roommates and I don't know anyone in this area. The money aspect is great. Another con is going to the same place constantly. I'd like to see the country a little more then just the same run overnight. Little variety.

    If you go to most truckload carriers, you probably will miss your easy line haul job for the pay and amount of work you do that you get paid for. I don't blame you for wanting to get away from night work or living in an apartment 2 hours from the house. I left a cushy night line job 5+ years ago after 10 years of night work to work days. Knowing what I know about trucking after 30 years in it, you better do a lot of research before you jump ship. You might do better to find another LTL company closer to home or move to it that could offer you more variety with the chance to eventually work days. I have done truckload OTR over the years only when I was laid off from a job. I certainly was glad when I got called back to my real job.

    Your Achilles heal is gonna be lack of experience. Most of the good regional companies are gonna want at least a year, most likely 2. The place I'm at is guaranteed home every weekend with comparable if not better pay but 2yrs is the min. If you're alright with the job you've got besides the slip seating issue I'd stick it out at least at year. It'll give you a lot more job options.

    I feel your pain though.. my first job was a local driver for an OTR company slipping to whatever truck was empty that day whether it be a daycab or sleeper truck. It amazed me the filth some of these dudes are content working and living in lol

    In my foodservice days i shared trucks with some real pigs who besides the usual coffee slopped all over , smoke, and garbage all over hell would throw rejected food in the truck so it wasn't in they're way in the trailer .
    God those trucks stunk .
