Extended forced layover-any recourse?

At this point there is very little that can be done. These things need to be handled as they occur, while toy have leverage. not after the fact when you have given up all leverage. You said 'his company' diets that mean he is an employee driver? If so your recourse is to find a better employer. Is he an owner operator leaded to a company? Again find a better company to lease to.

2 pallets? I would've told them they had 30 minutes to get me into the door or I'd offload them by hand right there at the guard shack and consider the load delivered. I've made that promise a couple times on end dump...once I'd missed them by 5 minutes and arrived at a locked gate. Told dispatch they were either going to get them to return and open the gate, pay me to take the load home and return in the morning, or I'd dump it right outside of their gate and they could deal with it. 5 minutes later, I had the combination to the gate's lock. The other time was on a road trip a few states away, and they wouldn't let me in because of my dog. So, I told them they could either let me in to dump where they needed it, or I'd put it right there at their gate and they could move it. I dumped my bags and unlatched the tailgate, climbed up into the cab and engaged the PTO. They changed their mind as soon as the bed started going up. Even on flatbed, I almost had to hand-unload. Showed up and was told "You'll have to wait until Monday...we stop unloading trucks at noon on Fridays". This truck ain't waiting, and if you don't unload me now, you'll have a large pile of lumber to sort through Monday morning right in front of your gate. They unloaded me, and I was on my way.

I don't wait...especially when I've got the means to unload. You might be asked to never come back. If you aren't very good at your job (or your company doesn't care about you), you might even lose your job. Personally, I wouldn't work anywhere that doesn't value my time.

 

i actually had that happen just not at any name brand store, it was a store known as BJ's here. i told the worker to go fly a kite, i pulled away slightly from the door and kicked everything out the door. i had 4 pallets.

i not only told my boss, but the lead dispatcher.

no troubles for me. and after that happened, my company owner told BJ's to go fly a kite, only in his own words.

 

He did not sit for four days because of Target. He sat because he works for a worthless heartless bunch of SOB's. And I think he already knows it. If he doesn't turn the truck in when he gets back kick him in the ##*. And you might also consider he may be feeding you a line of crap and was having a good time down there.

 

That sucks now dispatch needs to reschedule.Target DC is a stickler about being on time.I had to sit on a target load for 2 days because
broker messed up and gave me a wrong delivery date and time.But I got an awesum detention and my boss got paid twice as much for the load so he didn't mind.

4 days to unload 2 pallets if it what me them pallets would have been sitting on the ground and i would have been gone a long time ago.

 

4 days? NFW am I waiting 4 days. You'd be lucky if I wait 4 hours. (even if I was getting paid). I would have either kicked them out the door at the guard shack or just driven back with it. "load refused"

He should take the truck back adn turn in his keys, he'll be employed tomorrow.
