I'm 24 years old and have decided to jump into the business. (no experience at all) I just took this decision since I would like to work for myself and not for a company. I have my CDL learner's permit and i'm schedule for the driving on June 28. Last week I bought my F-350 and I'm expecting to receive my two car hauler trailer on/or before June 23. My parents had advised to to get experience first but I just didn't listen. Right now, I received a call from an owner/operator that one of my friends knows. He has offered me to train me for 6 months. I would be working for him and pay me cash while I get my CDL. After I receive my CDL he would be paying me with a check.
My question is, well my parents lol
How would I protect myself against bad people that will put drugs in the vehicle you're driving?

do you have money for the truck when it breaks down.?? or is it brand new??
so a newbie, no license, no experience, knows what to do??
you had better take up that o/o and his offer.

Hi sir,
Thank you so much for the quick response.
Actually, I do have a whole year of income in the bank to pay my bills. I went to work at the refineries to work for six months straight and saved up my money away with my parents. Actually, I haven't set up my tax information and/or permits yet, but I'm about to begin working on that. As far as health benefits, my parents have me covered since I'm still under 26. I do have an education degree (Kinesiology) but not planning on using until I'm at least 30 years old. The truck is brand new as well as the car hauler trailer. My parents offered to take over payments on the truck just in case I failed on my attempt to work on my own.
I currently only have learner's permit and will be getting the actual license on/or about June 28, 2017. I would like to work with this guy 3-6 months so I may gain some experience but I dont know how do driver's would protect from people that sometimes put drugs in the vehicles you're assigned to drive. Do you have any suggestions on this? Please help mebuddyd157 Thanks this. -
I second this. Your parents are right. Also, you may not be able to find insurance that will cover you without proper training from a school, or the premiums will be so high you cant afford it.
Go otr two years. Save up some more money then after two years hit the road hauling what you want. Depending where you live you may not have seen snow. Mountains and snow will get you if you are not properly trained. Listen to your parents. -
this ought to get interesting
ASmallFleetDriver and buddyd157 Thank this. -

That comes with the experience of being over the road and know who you can and cant trust. This is why we are telling you to listen to your parents. You need formal training. Not some friend of a friend. How do you know the guy willing to train you is on the up and up?
-
You should stick with the O/O willing to take you on, thats a good thing. as far as drugs go, do a thorough pre--trip / inspection. Nothing you can do if it's inside the tires or some place you can't get to,
-
Yes, I agree I need formal training, which I'm planning to get from this guy that has offered to help. I'm from South Texas and all you find on this area is a bunch of crook people trying to get rich from crossing drugs.
Meanwhile, my dad can take advantage and ride my truck which he loves, lol.
I'm trying to take as much guidance from parents as I can. I'm a good guy and would hate to get in trouble. I asked around and they said to always keep my log up to date. I would like to get more input from you experience drivers. This is one suggestion my parents advise me to ask-How would I know if they put something in the vehicle I'm driving. Thanks -
Why so worried about drugs? Lol. Its not likely you will ever drive a vehicle that a drug dealer has decided he wants to stuff full of free dope. Drugs are expensive they don't Just go around filling random vehicles. I remeber back in the 70s when the big scare was drug dealers lacing weed with cocain. Did that happen NO it did not because coke is expensive and No drug dealer could afford to do that lol. Forget about the drugs and concentrate on the task at handBigredblue, wore out, Badmon and 3 others Thank this.
