The fight againts ELDs,A large number of drivers forming.

Well, it doesn't matter which decade we are talking about or type of logs, local shuttle drivers tend to race around lots and truck stops.

 

I want to be the fly on the wall when all 9 drivers, I mean 9000 drivers actually show up and are ushered into Congressman Blowhard's office, or actually an aide with no influence at all.
"Let's see if I understand you driver's correctly. You want to continue to draw a line on a graph with a pen, ruler and carbon paper to keep track of where you are and how many hours you have worked. I didn't even know you could still get carbon paper. ( begins to laugh uncontrollably) And all of this in an era when almost all of you have a device in your pocket(smart phone) which has more computing power than the Space Shuttle of the 1980's. What are you a bunch of Luddites? (Laughing hysterically now, with all the media reps in the room)" You guys should be on Saturday Night Live, No Really... "

 

For those wanting the hours of service changed, what would be the new HOS to replace the old ones?

The OTR & LTL truck drivers of America are positively the driving force of our economy.

 

There is what we want it to be changed to, and then there is what we might be able to get it changed to. getting some more flexibility back while maintaining the 14 hour clock just might get through the law making process. Say instead of the current 8/2 split..make it so a 4 or 5 hour sleeper berth pauses the clock just like the 8 does now. that's probably the most e can hope for and have a shot at actually getting.

More traffic than ever. Everyone says there are more wrecks than ever before, which i agree it feels that way, but accidents have to be viewed as a percentage of total highway miles traveled by all vehicles. That's the stat i want to see.

About the 10 hour break, while i agree it feels excessive, you gotta look at their argument. By the time you grab a shower and eat, now it's only 8 hours. Another hour of reading/tv/ whatever and its down to 7. Add in an hour for breakfast and other morning things and its only 6. Back when it was only 8 hours it was common to be working all week on 4 hours of asleep a night. that's why it was changed to 10 hours. Their intent was to change the job schedule to more of the typical worker with enough time off to do the same things people that come home every day do. They don't want a guy going from driving to sleeping 5 minutes after setting the brakes or releasing the brakes 5 minutes after waking up.

If we want HOS amended from its current form a few things have to happen, first almost all politicians have a background in law. We gotta talk to them as attorneys, not pissed off truck drivers. And second, we have to understand they can't just give us what we want, they have groups with huge voting power that they have to answer to. The only way hos will be changed to our benefit is if we are willing to compromise.

 

I have used both see good and bad in both. The worst thing ffor me with ELD was the constant naging in ac of mind nowing the dam 14hr NEVER stops!!!! So u push harder and harder.

 

So the feds are starting a pilot program to study the effects of allowing a real split sleeper berth back. This is great news!
