It's fine if you drive correctly. I just went from 430 to 550. You ease into the power not jumping on it.
Oxbow, Broke Down 69, Diesel Dave and 2 others Thank this. -
That same principle applies to even higher hp.
With great power comes great responsibility.......Winston Churchill (I think)Oxbow, cnsper and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
I run B-trains at 550hp in a NXS C-15 and get 3-3.5 mpg. If you want better mpgs, either pull less weight, or cruise at a lower RPM. These CAT's are thirsty, but they will run forever if you treat them right.
Oxbow Thanks this. -
At my gross I pretty much have to smash it like a red headed chick if I don't want a middle finger fest on the interstate.Oxbow Thanks this.

I said less throttle in the lower range... If your in low range on a highway you have issues.....

Talk to other guys that pull heavy in mi and get a reflash. All the specs are fine for heavy work. Use should be able to get close to 5 if you drive it right and it isnt all stop and go 2 lane work. 1500 at cruising speed is where a heavy spec cat should be imo. Backing up loaded trains or doing field work with 3.55's etc isn't much fun in my world. Good luck with it. Looks like a nice unit.
