So much win I dont even know where to begin.
You should have had a solid business plan before ever buying a truck. The whole premise of becoming an O/O is to have the freedom to make your own choices and make smart business decisions in order to become successful. Putting the cart before the horse is one of the biggest mistakes people do.
Good luck out there. I strongly encourage you to develop a solid plan instead of blindly jumping into this.
HurstK Wopper906, Jilani, Tug Toy and 1 other person Thank this. -
I don't get why it's so much negativity out here in the trucking world. Leave it to most guys on here you are screwed they think you are dumb but I see you as a guy that took a leap of faith and doing what he wants to do. You may succeed greatly or you may fail miserably but you have my respect for taking the leap of faith. What is a good life without taking a couple risks? You will never know until you try and if it don't work out dust yourself off and keep moving. Good luck man!

That would be because the optimists either had it ground out of them or are no longer in the industry. Works that way for freight brokers too.fordconvert, Tug Toy and superhill56 Thank this.

That is true. I think people jump into this thing with their hopes way too high. You get sold a bag of riches which ever route you choose and end up with Monopoly money
-
I'm not getting my hopes high, you see first things first with a company that someone else runs I at least have money from loads they already have, so I don't need to hunt. While I get my numbers I have a source of income that I can rely on, and get my feet wet so to speak. I don't want to jump into booking my own loads again, because the last time I did that, I had no money saved. This is calculated, I'm not just jumping in like last time. Just because I don't do it one way doesn't make it wrong. For those that believe that you should take a look at how you run your business, and the look at the guy next to you. He runs his differently from yours, does it make it better if he has a use truck vs. your new one, no it just means he's running his stuff differently. Don't pass judgments when you are doing the same thing. I am just running my business differently from yours no need to get scared.
xsetra Thanks this. -
I hear you man! Just to clarify I wasn't talking about you getting your hopes too high. I was talking about the ones who fail in general. I'm a new venture myself and I'm wishing both of us the best of luck.

Good luck man, I have a company in mind down here, but I'm looking in the event this one falls through. He pays 88% so not to bad, and all O/O. So far his drivers have made good money, no telling though.

If you have experience, just go with one the brand name people that offer trailers if you need one. Let's say a Co. like Landstar. Trailers,Insurance,Tires,Big fuel discounts and advance money based on the % of the load. Manage your money, take care of your truck, get to know some of the better agents. You may well forget getting your own numbers.
-
I know the agent manager down here in the SA, TX division of Landstar, the only thing that gets me is that I can't really find anyone that has gone in to speak with. I would rather not ask her to give me some numbers, I want to run into a random, because even though I know her personally I still believe that she might just give me the numbers to the highest paid people, which to me isn't right, because that's loading the answers to appear better than they really are. I suppose when I get off work I'll stroll on over to the TA and and Flying J across the street from work and bug them there. -_- Unless you have personal experience with them and care to inform me of their operations...
