The Fuel Hauler Thread

Welcome back to hauling fuel. Personally, I might just go the way of being a UPS Feeder driver or something. There are too many politics involved right now, and I"m sick of it. Bunch of gossiping little women at the rack.

 

Hey, good to hear from ya again, Moloko! Sorry you're goin thru a rough patch. Before you do anything drastic, remember that ALL loading racks are full of gossiping little girls and fair-weather gas heroes. YOU be the professional that you ARE.

Yeah, company politics suck. I'm trying to be on guard and not get involved in the drama. Politics drove me from the bus garage. I'm older and wiser than my last tango with the tanker, and my plan is get the loads and scram. The guys all seem okay, but I'm just here to get paid, pad my 401 (k), and GTFO with my legs still under me. I ain't gettin' any younger and all the little hurts through the years are coming back to collect.

Goimg to UPS isnt going to decrease the gossip or the politics. The barn near me was notorious for how bad they were

 

It's in every workplace. I don't fit in at work because I could give a #### about who hates whoever , and what whoever thinks about some other dude. I just want to deliver the loads without killing a bus full of innocent school children. This is why I became a driver. So I can be alone and focus on work. Christ jesus almighty to god.

 

Trust me, I'm right there with you, brother. I worked at that barn for 2 .5 years and after all the things I saw and heard there, I walked without a second thought. You would have thought the schoolyard behavior would have ended at grade school right?

 

Good ol' crowbar for me.

 

For pulling lids, we usually have a lid-pulling tool. You can use something like what you use to uncouple the lock jaws on a 5th wheel, like in dry van freight.

You also want to carry a flathead screwdriver, or a steady chisel, and a rubber hammer. Sometimes these lids will NEVER come off, and you gotta bang the crap out of them. It happens a lot in the rain, or in certain "problem stations," or especially on E85 tanks for some reason.

 

Are those a commercially produced item? Do you know who sells them? Google search unsuccessful so far.

Or did you guys fabricate them yourselves?

I found out this week that it's harder to bend down to remove covers and fill caps than it was ten years ago...... (insert Tylenol emoji here)

 

Ah you'll be ok. I used to have to pull man hole covers before I got into fuel. Had to use a sledgehammer to loosen it up. Those darn things would be fused into the ground and not pulled in years. Carry a little mallet and basic hand tools for assistance. Your company should provide a lid pulling tool.
