I managed to make my way through training and got my own truck. During training I was in a freightliner and I was able to idle it by just using the cruise control button and it wouldn't shut off. Now I'm in an international and it won't idle past 5 min. It gets pretty hot inside and was so seeing if there was a way to keep it going without tampering with anything that might get me in trouble. Thanks!

It might be because trainer trucks are allowed to Idle and company drivers are not. Call your company I'm sure thy will tell you about the Idle policy.

Depends how it is programmed. All you can do is see if you can increase the idle speed by turning on PTO mode with the cruise switches.

Try setting the trailer brakes and keeping the tractor brakes released

    BAD. BAD, evil driver.

Buy yourself a set of chocks too, make sure you don't wake up rolling across the parking lot. Or do what the company wants, that's NOT MAKING ANY MONEY, and sweat your nads off.

Gotta be smarter than the truck son. Remember you are the captain of the ship, and the captain has decided to run the engine and get a good nights sleep.

    OR

You could go sleep at one of those little picnic tables they have inside Love's.

If they don't provide an APU or let you idle, that's just ridiculous.
    Another douchebag company.

APUs should be required equipment built in all sleeper trucks.

My truck has the Detroit Optimized idle. It's the same thing as ICon. It's on a 2017 truck and the computers can do a parked regeneration on it's own. It's kinda amazing to see the Optimized idle system is back and it can now take care of the DPF automatically.
