So I received a message from my company telling me to call and use this reference number. I call and it's the accident hotline. They say someone reported that I knocked over a road sign. I feel like I would know if I hit something. So I say I didn't and they ask me to take pictures all around the tractor and trailer. So I take the pictures and I don't see any fresh damage. The trailers are usually pretty beat up anyways with this company. So what happens if they decide I did hit a sign and knock it over? How does this affect my record? I am a new driver.

Just tell them that is b.s. and go on with your day. Or tell them this place sucks and you're going to the next employer that doesn't require you to prove your innocence when an accusation is made.
Make sure you ask them how they will find any damage considering the trailers are beat up already.jungledrums, HotH2o, Highway_Executive and 3 others Thank this. -
Companies vary A LOT when dealing with a matter like this. Chances are a street sign isn't going to leave clear proof of damage on the side of most trailers. It's done, being stressed isn't going to change anything. Drive like the cops and your boss are always watching.Suspect Zero and G13Tomcat Thank this.

Otherwise I'd say you are dead to rights and take your lumps if you are guiltySuspect Zero and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
I had something like this to happen to me in 2011. I was guilty just shut up and take your lumps was what my company told me. They never actually seemed interested in my side. Only problem is I never struck that fixed object. The only blemish in an over 30 year driving career. Still pisses me off!

If your a new driver then u wouldn't necessarily know if u hit a sign. Ur stressed out, new tight area.. probly northeast somewhere..... and just trying to get done with the day.. think about it from the other driver who called ur companies point of view.. why would just some random person pick You out? If this is true, and u didn't hit the sign, seems like that's very elaborate way of covering their tracks.. which might be the case. In my opinion, very unlikely scenario.. my guess is u hit it and didn't even realize it. If your still in your first year, it's completely understandable. It's called a big rig for a reason. That reason being, it's a big ####in rig.. no1 gets it right away.. takes practice and determination.G13Tomcat Thanks this.

I ran one over and I knew it... it was in a parking lot. The company called my company and it never showed up on anything. The company delivering to said they had a big sign showing the truck entrance. OH... I mentioned upon leaving... the one laying flat on the ground with weeds covering it... sure I saw that...

No worries op most of us have done this early in our careers ...my claim to fame is a stop sign in Harvey north Dakota ..winter of 88 ..no witnesses due to whiteout conditions lol.
