    How so..

No trip permint is required per GA & TN dot

IFTA isn't required until you license it.

If it is going down the road under its own power, ALL rules apply.

trip permint IS NOT required to drive it across state lines when you buy it and are taking it to your home state to license it.

IFTA IS NOT required until you have license it as a CMV

Flood: I've been issuing citations to unregistered bobtails for registration and IFTA for over 20 years. As I stated way above, you cannot drive an unregistered vehicle and you cannot drive an IFTA qualifying vehicle without IFTA, and you cannot get IFTA without a US DOT number.

You don't have to agree with it. You don't even have to obey it. But here, an IFTA permit is $10. An IFTA citation is about $200.

This is copied and pasted from the IFTA manual.

    INTERNATIONAL FUEL TAX AGREEMENT (IFTA)

Who Needs to Obtain an IFTA License?

Any person based in a member jurisdiction operating a qualified motor vehicle(s) in two

or more member jurisdictions is required to license under this Agreement and if the

    vehicle:

    • Is a power vehicle having two axles and a gross vehicle weight or registered gross

vehicle weight exceeding 26,000 pounds or 11,797 kilograms; or

    • Is a power vehicle having three or more axles regardless of weight; or

    • Is used in combination, when the weight of such combination exceeds 26,000

pounds or 11,797 kilograms gross vehicle weight or registered gross vehicle

    weight.

    Exempt Vehicles

Recreational vehicles - such as motor homes, pickup trucks with attached campers, and

buses when used exclusively for personal pleasure by an individual. In order to qualify

as a recreational vehicle, the vehicle shall not be used in connection with any business

    endeavor.

So what you're saying is that he should have registered and insured it as an RV.

If I buy a truck, in my state, or any other, I don't understand how not having IFTA could be cited, since you need a USDOT to get IFTA, and I do not need a USDOT. I checked in VA, where I was looking at a truck, and could not find ANYTHING for temp registration for out of state purchasers. Let me know what state you work in, I'll be sure to avoid it in my truck shopping.

When you are bringing a vehicle back for your business, or transporting vehicles, THE VEHICLE is the property you are transporting.

You're missing the "in commerce" part of transporting the vehicle. If I am not transporting the vehicle for commerce, then it still resounds a NO. I'm just Joe, and I bought a big truck. How can you predict Joe's future endeavors? More so,how can you issue a fine on your predictions of Joe's future endeavors? Sorry, big fat fail there -The Minority Report was fiction.
