I was told last October when I got a L1 that I don't need to even have it on my person anymore. I asked twice about it to make sure I was hearing him right and he said that it is now all on his computer to confirm I have a valid DOT or not.

Have had mine messed up three times in 20 yrs:
Got a speeding ticket in Texas, mailed it in three days later. Court clerk forgot to enter it, 2 months later I get a notice of suspension from Colorado. WTF??? Call DMV, they tell me the issue, Texas. I called the court in question, gave the woman the citation and check number. Had my bank fax her a copy of the cleared check. She took care of it immediately.
Overweight ticket, gave it to the boss to pay. She lost it, I get a notice of suspension from the state because of it not being paid. My boss was on the phone right away clearing that up.
Last time was this past March, renewed my CDL on the 23rd, at the time the clerk at DMV updated everything, made note of my HAZMAT clearance, told me to stand in line for my picture. Never bothered to have me retake the HAZMAT test as required. The HAZMAT portion of my license expired on the 25th of March. On weekends, I drive for Uber and Lyft, I emailed them each a copy of my updated license. On Thursday afternoon, Lyft locked me out of the system saying I failed the background check. Further review on their part showed my license as revoked. My boss called his friend with State patrol Friday morning, gave him my license number, he ran it and came back as revoked. I called DMV, they checked, found out about their mistake. I had to go to DMV, at Noon, on the last Friday of the month to get it cleared up. There were 60 people inside, another 60 in a line out the door and down the sidewalk. I approached the clerk that was outside talking to people, told him my problem, he bumped me to the front of the line. Took about 45 minutes to get it cleared up,. -
I went in to the DMV to add a restriction to my CDL and ask the clerk if we were still required to carry our medical card since it will show on our CDL . She said yes some officer's may still ask for it.
Later that week DOT pulled me in for inspection and I asked the officer the same question he also replied yes cause sometimes it won't show on your CDL.
So business as usual for me... -
I just get stopped by Police inspector while hauling hazmat, he did not even asked about
my medical (license in FL , was stoped at DE), had lvl II, so yeah I think now it's should be on connected with your driver ID number -
I was told I didn't have to carry my card because it was "in the system". I ran my license on the CAD and spent 10 minutes looking through the raw data return before I found the entry showing I was A-Okay.
Carry the card. Not all cops are that willing to dig through all the data returned by their terminals. They know what they know, if they can't find it easily they may decide to let a judge sort it out...
As an aside: I got a letter from the DMV yesterday warning me that they were going to downgrade me to a regular driver's license because they don't have a current medical cert.
The cert that that I faxed them two weeks ago. The one the local DMV office refused to accept because it has to be faxed directly to the state, they are not allowed to take it. They directed me to a drug store across the parking lot to fax it...

Carry the card anyway.
I get asked for it still every time I get pulled for an inspection. -
I carry my card at all times. And if I lose my wallet, I have a copy of my Long Form on the truck. And if my truck burns to the ground, I have the Des Moines, Iowa D.O.T. number in my phone. And if my phone has no service, I have my Driver License and Social Security numbers memorized. And if I have a Stroke, I guess they're on their own.
MACK E-6 and SingingWolf Thank this. -
If your having all of those problems at once, your medical card will not be high on the list of things that anybody cares about. lol
At least I hope not. i have met a few very pedantic dot officers in the past.
