Those numbers sound pretty good. You run line haul at night or LTL during the day ? I have a Dayton terminal 2 miles from my house in Milwaukee, and they just put a banner on one of their trailers you can see off I-94 "now hiring drivers". That never happens, and from hearing, they don't have much turnover. Job I'm at now, we start at 2-3 am and average 10-13 hour days, no weekends, getting up early like that has gotten old, I would almost rather work nights. What are the schedules like at Dayton ?

This is the best quote I've read in awhile. I thought only I was the one with that credo. Agreed 1,00%

Nice thing about starting at 3 AM is having the afternoon to do things that most of us have to take a day off for.

I'm on night linehaul starting at 9pm working until whenever. Typically 10-14 hour nights, with higher seniority drivers working much less for similar money on gravy bids. Most terminals have linehaul cut times around 9pm, give or take.

Every terminal runs a little differently according to their operational needs, but ours has P&D start times between 7 and 10am. They bid on start times, so senior drivers go for the early starts. At my terminal, new drivers start out coming in at 10.

I worked P&D for a year before a linehaul spot opened up. Most of our city guys pass on those openings, so it might not take long to switch to linehaul if that's what you're interested in. I talk to a Milwaukee driver pretty regularly. I'll let you know if I find out any details about that terminal. There isn't much turnover, but the company is growing so most terminals are looking for qualified drivers.

@dextrdog - Here's what I found out about Milwaukee from one of their drivers last night. Forgive me if any of the info is inaccurate:

He said they're going to be building a new terminal soon with nearly double the doors of the current one. I think he said it'll be a little further south of where it is now. They're also building one in Madison, which I assume will lighten the burden of city drivers who might be covering that area from Milwaukee. He told me they are at max capacity and that when the two new terminals are opened up, they'll be able to accept much more business. Apparently, the demand is there, but the space just isn't. Madison will be the 5th terminal in Wisconsin.

The same thing happened at my terminal, which more than doubled in size recently. If you can get on ahead of that, like before next summer, you can have drivers under you in seniority in no time. I'm blown away by how many drivers we have added in the past year at my terminal just due to growth. Dayton Freight is second in growth only to Old Dominion right now. Considering how small a company we are, that says a lot.

$3000 (I was hired in December)
This will by my first full year in LTL, and right now I'm at $36K for the year.
That's getting paid .575/mi and averaging around 2800 miles a week on the extra board.

Hey appreciate the info! My company is currently going through some significant changes so I think I'm staying to see if it's for the better or worse, I guess time will tell. Yea i heard from a co worker Dayton is moving down to sturtevant, so like you said, a bigger building. Coincidentally we are too, to be closer to Chicago in order to be able to make 2 turns between there and Morris, IL. They still got the now hiring sign up on the trailer next to I-94. I stare at it every morning on the way to work and keep telling myself to apply.
