antenna length?

Just thinkin..If he is getting the range on that cobra like he is he should be able to easily double it with a xxx

 

his Firestik antenna has been having issues lately and he needs to get his antenna looked at but from where I was sitting with that radio and amp that I had I could easily talk to the TA truck stop off 81 at Exit 77 so Jason should possibly be able to do the same thing if all the stars are in alignment. it's definitely going to be bunch more difficult to do the same thing with a tractor trailer as I could do with a four wheeler

 

Been debateing again on haven mark match up my 955 with a ts 500..Its in the back of my head for now...Im on the prowel for a lil house for me instead of renting..

 

Hey guys. Im getting a new pete 389 with the standup sleeper with the antenna factory mounted on the rear of the sleeper a foot or so below the top. Whats your recommendations for a top loaded antenna I guess. I might eventually get mirror mounts again and go back to stainless whips but for now just wanting the easiest set up for a box stock galaxy dx959.

 

That's the interesting thing about antenna analyzers, its showing 57 ohms on channel 1 which is very close to the 50 ohm impedance of the radio. But the x (reactance) is high and the other 2 channels have high resistance but zero reactance. So basically channels 20 @ 40 should have no rf power being reflected back by the antenna. Which is good. Unfortunately my old mfj analyzer doesn't show reactance, so I just have to use my bird meter to get an idea about how much reflected power my antenna has.

 

Just picked up my new antenna yesterday from 727 in nj one of davemades pupils and helped him design it.He built it while I waited took about an hour then tuned it using a laptop first for me never seen that before but anyway so far so good it receives great can't wait to hook up the 5 pill fatboy next week.

 

castrating the radio to make the amp happy seems kind of counterproductive.
How about spending a little bit more and getting one of these?

That's find but it is a good illustration of something I said to you guys a while ago about mobile rf antenna systems and their relation to the ground and the capacitance between each object.

I got the normal "that's BS" from the experts on it in this forum but it is not just valid but it is taken in account when they design antenna systems for critical systems.

 

On the subject of FS meters, they make a handy tool to see who is deadkeying behind closed curtains in the truckstop and who needs their coax cut.
