Why is it when dispatch offers a load, I ask what does it pay and the answer I get is, I don't know, or I don't discuss money? They are the ones booking the load. So my response is when you find out let me know and I will let you know if I will haul it. Causing bad blood!

if the company does not tell you the rate, change companies to one that has an open policy. there should be no reason to hide or "not discuss money" from a contractor.

I am a fleet manager/load planner/ freight broker for a small trucking company. We have about 20 O/Os leased on. I always forward a copy of the rate confirmation to my O/Os. It's part of the dispatch process and not optional. That way everyone is on the same page and there's no room for accusations to fly.

exactly the way IT SHOULD BE, giving the operator a chance to turn it down if it does not meet his miles rate.

I worked with a guy who flat out told me that because I was his friend he wouldn't play games with the rates. At the same time, by implication, he was indicating that he would, if I weren't his friend. Not good!

I don't allow that game to be played and will go to the company to deal with this crap face to face and any Owner Operator needs to stop it right the second happens.

I would tell the dispatcher that they will tell you the rate or they can put you through with the O/O coordinators in the carrier, and tell them that the contract is clear, you don't work for nothing - period.

They can't hold it against you for any reason, they have to disclose the details, and I bet it is right in the contract.

I'm assuming you are on a percentage pay contract. If so, I'd find a new carrier. The only reason to hide a rate is to rip you off. On the other hand, if you are contracted at a flat mileage rate, then the rate your carrier gets isn't really your concern. If that's the case, just make sure they aren't shorting your miles.

What exactly is the OP's situation here. As an O/O hauling for rates, of course he's entitled to know the rate before he accepts the load. However, if he's leased on for that fantastic "buck-a-mile" rate, who cares what the rate is, right ?
