Oh come on, been hearing this for years about trucking, IT, retail and so on, it gets tiring.
If you would stop with the bs, learn how to actually run the numbers then explain to people like me why I am working so hard to make little money, then I can believe this but right now you are part of the problem in this industry.
Seeing this as a job forces you to be myoptic, not able to see it as a business, not able to grasp the big picture or how to capture revenue and not to allow you to understand what it is all about for most.Scott72, JReding, Crude Truckin' and 1 other person Thank this. -
I saw on one of his early threads that he has been out here about 3 months, and they was 3 months ago.
He is good for entertainment, but not to take seriously.JReding, bulldawg trucker, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 1 other person Thank this. -
My thoughts exactly.
I own 2 homes. 5 acres of property. 2 race cars, 2 muscle cars, a Suzuki M109R, Silverado pickup. Put my son through 4 yrs of college. Send my daughter a monthly welfare package. Pay my disabled brother's nursing care. My truck and trailer are both paid for. I come and go as I please. I go on a cruise at least once a year. I go to Italy and Greece regularly. I like nice things, my 65" Sony Bravia 4K TV and 55" 4k in my man cave. My Yamaha/Klipch/Cerwin Vega/Onkyo home theater thunder bass sound system. New furniture, new zero radius JD lawn tractor, $3500 laptops. I go to nice restaurants,.. no All you can eat buffet here. My truck runs nothing but the best virgin tires, it sees regular and preventative maintenance. I've spent thousands on upgrades,.. more than the truck is worth. I can go on and on here.
I live within my means. I dont spend more than I can afford. I have cash in the bank. I dont profess to be rich. I am a working man after all.
Do I work heard? If you mean long hours,.. sure. I am a man. Its what I have always done. I hustle and earn as much as I can. Then when I'm ready,.. I come home and have a good time.
I dont worry or cry about what the next guy has. If I want more I'll figure it out and hustle up some more work. I'm a survivor because I am willing to work harder and do more than the next guy. Thus,.. my ends meet like a mo fo.
Less money? Than who,.. someone who doesnt have a good work ethic?

Just got to add something, most of the failures I see are failures to manage money, it isn't the money that comes in. I bought a company where the owner didn't handle the money, had to pay his bills before the company's bills and ran it into the ground because of the new cars he got, the toys and everything else on credit.
bulldawg trucker, OLDSKOOLERnWV and JReding Thank this. -
He may be on to something. I did the numbers responding to a guy on a livetrucking.com thread. I won't go into the numbers, but according to the numbers, in 1972, a low paid driver earned almost 10 times the MSRP of a v8 pickup. Now, a highly paid driver is between 2.2-2.6 times the MSRP, and a more typical one is paid 1.6 times.
I don't think it is unique to trucking, rather to the middle class as a whole. -
Thats not just in trucking. Thats been the downward spiral of employment salaries in relationship to inflation since the 60's. Its why I work for myself and not someone else. If I went back into construction now,.. I would be started at the same salary I made 15 yrs ago. I've heard of guys with 10 yrs OTR experience making less than I was making 20 yrs ago. Doesnt mean I am out here working for free.
People piss and moan about a living wage and cry about min wage. If you dont like min wage then dont work min wage jobs. Learn a trade or get a degree and better yourself.
I've been at it for 5 yrs now and each year gets better and better for me. New and better contacts. Operating more efficiently. Debt paid off. I have plans to retire in 10 yrs with enough to live comfortably well into my 70's,.. if I live that long.
Inflation is insane. Doesnt seem to matter where I go,.. Target, Walmart, Macy's, Kohls,.. groceries,.. hardware store. I go in for a few things and always end up walking out the door with a receipt for $200 - $300 easily. I just spent $980 yesterday between JC Penny and Kohls and I really only bought clothes I needed plus a nice pair of sneakers.
Hurstbulldawg trucker Thanks this. -
I have a unique ability to compare wages and lifestyles of collage folks and my own wage history of construction trash and truck driver both over the road and local. I live in the heart of a city so the people I know work in a cubical. My wages in construction was comparable to office people minus paid vaction time off and holiday pay and sabbaticals. Of course, I don’t have collage debt so it evens out a little. Then I was introduced to the people that work for free, AKA over the road truck drivers. Well you guys got this or you made this…lol.. Its all BS when compared to the rest of society from the small town I grew up in to the large city I live in now you’re your getting the shaft when you are compared to the rest of society. Solution, good into ANY other field and you will be better off.Last edited: Jul 10, 2017
