That's the number 1 risk right there. You go get your truck start trucking and find out its not what you thought and wanna get out.
Just pick a company, run for them 3-6 months get your feet wet and see where it goes from there. Or go hotshot with a class 7 but (quote)"I might be willing to do regional or a dedicated out and back, maybe be gone a few days at a time may be okay" is somewhat of a unicorn with no experience. But I guess nothing is impossible just extremely hard.Last edited: Jul 10, 2017

Well in this day and age if someone has already climbed Mt Everest, Crossed the south pole , its more than likely that someone has gone straight ahead and bought a truck.

Search and look for a thread done by "PharmPhail". It is an extremely long thread describing the ups and downs that he had by starting out of school as an owner/op. He basically believed he had thoroughly researched and had enough money to make it happen. His plight will most likely be your future if you become an owner/op first thing.
rolls canardly, clausland, dennisroc and 1 other person Thank this. -
Dang, I remember that. Good looking out. I totally forgot until you mentioned it.GoneButNotForgotten Thanks this.

Go for it..get yourself in debt up past your eyeballs then add 1 big accident that hurts or kills someone..
I can see it now..Op is in court for corrupt business ventures which pales to the family he killed cause of a lack of experience...
Judge sez " Son,what do you have to say for yourself"?
OP sez "Sorry judge its my 1st week and i didnt know"!!
Judge replys "Oooohhhhh you didnt knooowwwwww,in that case all the charges are dropped and your free to go..Oh by the a new trk n trailer both fully loaded are waitin for you outside"...

Don't some companies split the freight bill with you when you let them use your truck and have someone else drive?
With a company I know, one gent has three trucks and doesn't drive one of them.dennisroc Thanks this. -
O/P has money to play with, guys..... not saying that buying a truck is good or bad, I'm still using my boss' and making good money, and bring the girl home at the end of the day. @dennisroc .... I kind of agree with the others.... just lease YOURSELF for a year, not a truck...see if it's all the glitz and glam it appears to be. You may do better buying another plane, or two.....Amazon might sign you on. AND I DON'T MEAN THIS as any Dis. At all.rolls canardly and dennisroc Thank this.

Some truck owners do this. But for those in the 1-4 trucks range, they're largely operating on pennies per mile "profit". So either they "have money" and use trucks to manage their tax liability, or they're walking a fine line each month between good profit and bad loss, depending on how the trucks and drivers do their job.
And keeping quality drivers without good pay and benefits is hard to do. And be late one week with payment or bounce their paycheck and you'll soon discover just how vital they are to your financial stability.
And discover how much money a bad driver can cost you in a month.Last edited: Jul 10, 2017
