Did you check for holes on the fuel tanks? Fuel could be pouring out when the truck goes up.

Losing speed uphill is expected and normal.

Simple physics. I suggest you find another mechanic. Stressing about things that are ordinary and expected in trucking. After all you are loaded to almost 40 ton.

All trucks lose speed going up hills. If you have a smaller or low torq engine,.. you will not climb hills very well. If you have an automatic,.. they are set for fuel economy,.. not hill climbing power.

I have a CAT C15 set at 500/1850 and even this wont maintain the speed limit climbing more than a 4% grade. Usually what I do is bump it about 5 - 10 mph over the speed limit before a hill,.. still lose speed,.. but not as much by the time I hit the top.

Someone should invent some sort of meter that measures how fast the engine is turning. With a meter like that, if the engine turning meter were increasing, and the truck were slowing while you were in the same gear, you would know your clutch was slipping. Without said meter we have to rely on the "oldschool" sniffing method.

They do,.. its called a Tach and speedometer. If you have a 3.55 gear and 22.5 tires,.. at 70 mph the tach should be showing about 1550 rpm. If its showing more then that when climbing a hill and your speedo is showing less,.. in laymans terms,.. we call that a clue.
