TEXAS HAZMAT question

    we are in school. Have our CLP with tanker endorsement. We also already have a TWIC card.
    Question: when we go and take our Hazmat test... will we still need to pay for a fingerprint and background... since our TWIC card is via TSA?

    Yes-i believe you pay for both.If you already have Twic,your hazmat cost is discounted----and visa-versa.
    Last year my drivers friend had to pay,the one was discounted-but not by much.
    Thats what i was told,anyway.
    Good to have both-you are already more of an asset.

    It knocks about 20$ off the TSA fee, still have to fingerprint again.

    I know the TWIC card will only help in certain companies, depending on if you are dealing with the ports or refineries.

    No ports around here. My bro in law hauls to refineries. I know he don't have Twic.

    If it's needed. I wouldn't know who, around here.
    I'll have ask him if he knows any place requiring

    Twic card comes in useful running the Texas coast. For example loading out of the Houston/Freeport you have to pay for a security escort if you don't have a twic card.

    We have had our TWIC cards for almost a year. We sent off for our passports. We have our tanker endorsement and plan on getting our double & triples as well as our Hazmat endorsement, so that we will be prepared for any opportunity that comes along. Plus some companies give you extra pay just for having a hazmat endorsement, or you would get job via a company that not everyone could get just because they don't have the endorsement.
    We want a long haul OTR company... we are looking at Convenant due to pay, team company, pet policy (2 older male cats) and possibly Melton if they will except 2 cats.
