Ok, if you have Insite, you can monitor turbo speed while wiggling the wiring. Hopefully you can find a bad spot in the wiring or connector and repair it. If not, you can try a new speed sensor.

    samjward Thanks this.

We moved wires and it just seems to drop randomly to 0 rpm. It's strange because it's so random. Seems like a wiring issue to the sensor.

Faulty sensors can also be more temperamental to temperature, meaning, if they seem to work fine when the engine is cold, then act up when warm, it is likely a bad sensor.

Did you check the sensor resistance spec hot as I stated in the begining? What was your measurement? This sensor often fails high resistance hot. Sometimes I will start a regen and get it nice and hot with the hood closed and recheck. You have Insite, have you gone through all ts steps for 2973 yet? This is the fault that keeps returning, yes? It is possible you have a wiring issue between the sensor and ECM but sensor is way more common.

I checked wiring to the Intake Manifold Pressure/Temp sensor. Voltage falls between normal range and doesn't drop out. FC2973 is the one that returns, yes. I checked ohms reading on turbo speed sensor and it comes to 280, which according to your range doesn't meet the range you mentioned. Unplugging the turbo speed sensor allows the truck to run with no fault codes at all. They all go inactive and Manifold gauge works again. Very strange, to me it looks like the turbo speed sensor is faulty but it could be the pressure is too low on the Intake side due to a CAC leak.

Your reading of 280 ohms means the sensor is internally shorted, but out of spec regardless. Replace it or get a new sensor and compare your meter readings to the new sensor and verify you are in range, if not get a new or different meter and recheck.

Hey Sam did you ever fix the issue, if so what was the final solution?

Tengo el mismo problema en Kenworth 2017, código de falla 2973 aparece en la pantalla presión de empuje sin fugas reemplazar el sensor de temperatura de admisión y lo vuelve a marcar

I'm having close to the same problem except if I unplug the turbo speed nothing changes the intermittent loss of power still happens. So if I unplugg both the imap and the the turbo speed it is constant loss of power....really feel like there's a problem with the wires somewhere from the imap. Anyone have any ideas?
