Oh I know it won't because o/o is so small now that them refusing cheap freight doesn't matter. A mega will haul it for them.

Even though a ton of people hate the company they work for very few will actually do something about it. Also it's a revolving door like you said.

This is true however don't forget that most drivers that leave mega's have not just quit. Most were fired by the carrier safety dept. Most for repeated log and HOS violations and others for repeated preventable accidents. What happens over time after going from carrier to carrier is they slowly become un-hirable and get out of trucking. This is one reason we keep seeing these threads being started by people that start with I have been out of trucking for so long and have a problem. Most of the time when a driver quits a mega they are moving into a better situation because they have got a few years of experience in and got hired. My last several years I turned down several good job offers because they were either flatbed or tanker. I have did both and hated it. Carriers spend millions upon millions cleaning up the messes these drivers make in lawsuit settlements and paying MAJOR state fines issued. Then add to this all the extra costs involved in maintaining recruiting depts and this endless round robin hiring situation. Lets face it. Trucking has never been a job that people aspire to. Away from home way too much and spending time stuck being laid over and sitting at docks is not something a normal person wants to do. This is why drifters and other personality types have drifted into trucking. My father retired from his job at WR Grace in 1992. On the way home from Greenville SC after getting his tractor cleaned out he told me Mike I am so dang glad I don't have to deal with this anymore. I asked him what was so bad about it other then being away from home? His answer is something I will never forget. Remember this was 1992. He said Mike I am getting tired of the scum that is driving trucks today. This situation has not got any better in the 25 years since either.

Now before someone takes offense please remember I am almost 60 years old and remember a time when trucking was vastly different. I know the drivers are different today because I have seen this change. So you can blame the companies and the Government all you want, but the ONLY way this industry will become better again is to rid itself of these (steering wheel holders).

Hey I agree, I just hired another one and he starts Monday, I told him as I told others - I trust you until I can't trust you but that said, my comments were not about felons at all, but being the toilet of the job world while many of us feel this should be a profession and not just a job. I am fighting this revolving door by any means possible, I want drivers to get a good wage, to be respected and not make this a job but a profession. Those who have been in prison deserve a fair shake and that is the same for people who want to make this a career and profession.

There are 2 MAJOR problems with trucking. The first and most devastating is movies like Smokey and the Bandit and 2nd a line out of the movie Topgun. In that Movie after the tower flyby Goose is making light of the fact they were in trouble by asking about that truck driver school. Trucking has become a backstop. Can't make it, well there is always the fabulous money making world of trucking. This crap almost makes me want to vomit!

I'm going through this hell of obtaining a regional position right now 9 -9- 2018
I did local to get my experience (3yrs)
Released with no Cdl and now i have my
Tanker& double&triples and i am unemployed a few things took place.
But in the end the company will decide if they are up for sharing part of the parole officer duties...
The needs to have a bill drafted that a company can see in writing (to say the parolees has passed all state requirements, that parolee will comply
With and every laws govern his release
With direct contact with his or her parole officer the Work Travel Permit would be valid for one month to renew the pass
A drug screen, person to person with said officer would be Mandatory"

Your PO will decide if you are really free from the system to go out running the USA. It is a literal nightmare to PO's to have you 2000 miles away free as a bird when you are not.

If you are free then go to it. Otherwise work on getting free.

Trucking long ago felons built a life in the trailer lumping a load 50 dollars a time. Now that lumping has become a racket way beyond reason there is no point. I remember loading in the skid row LA Market south central I had three felons helping to load for next to nothing. One of which served as a body guard for a smoke and food run a block away. Everyone knew him left him and me with him alone. So that was worth a little extra.

What it has or is becoming today isnt the industry I started in. I probably wont see 60 and that is fine with me. However this industry is rapidly becoming one of the very last.. chance type situation for anyone with a pulse and I would like to think there is more to trucking than just holding a steering wheel.
