I do flatbed work about 30% of the time and half of that is with straps. But I'm lugging around 5 12' chains in my cab and four binders.

Besides paying for a proper chain rack, anyone have ideas to secure a steel box behind the cab to dump this stuff in?

Could you leave it on the trailer?

They make inbetween the frame rail boxes. I would go that way of your looking to store a hand full of chains and binders.

Do you have room to strap a tool box onto your cat walk?

I built this to go between my frame rails, I moved my batteries in there when I eliminated the battery boxes but it made good storage.

Looks like there's a divider in there. Chains in the back and storage in front?

Looks like it's similar dimensions to the Pete OEM steps. I like it.

Any more details on it? Is it bolted to the frame or just clamped onto the flanges?

I've been wanting to put a box between the rails to store stuff. Don't want to pay the high prices for one of the pre-built Aluminum ones though.

Clamped, I had a local fab shop brake the metal for the box and lid then I put it all together. It's a piece of (12 gauge maybe) steel bent to set on the frame rails. I measured everything so I could maximize the available area. It's been a while but we have less than $300 in the whole thing not counting my time. I had them brake some aluminum to match so I could build a whole deck plate. If you want more pictures let me know.

Thanks. I would love more pictures if you wouldn't mind. Making something custom length for the space I have would be nice. I'd like to fill in all the way from the back of the cab to the front of my fifth wheel.
