If you are new to this industry, is highly suggest you run away from being a 1099 driver, don't let the possibly of making $120k draw you in. Get your experience in with an actual company.
Drive for O/O working with fleetcar and 1099. Or W2?

I'm no fan of URS but if you're still making $1,100 a week after 6 months with them you'll probably be fired for lack of productivity.
Regarding $1,500 in 5 days as a 1099 driver, that's realistic, paying less taxes is pure fantasy or creative bookkeeping I've never heard of and I'm very creative.
I'm not a tax expert, but your 1099 tax rate that YOU (not the company for you) will be paying and filing 1/4ly will be approx 28% + 10% self employment tax.
If you're young and...ah, less than a C avg student FC could be the time of your life, sort of like throwing yourself in the water to teach yourself to swim. That's how I started hauling cars at age 22, I couldn't drive a truck much less load/unload cars, not possible or recommended these days.
You may get a nice truck with FC and load at enough yards where other drivers will help you out.
URS is the safest bet, FC may be an adventure.
Ask this FC O/O:
~ Who pays damages? You're getting 25% of the gross and taking on 100% of the damage liability? Is there a damage escrow account? If you have no damages when and how do you get it back and from
who? What is the limit of your liability?
~ Misc charges. Who pays for pull up charges at an auction? Hotel if you're laid over or broke down? Are there ancillary charges of any kind?
~ 25% of what gross? Gross to the truck (what the O/O is paid from FC), gross of the revenue paid to FC? How can you, as a contractor, audit the revenue of a load to verify it? What if you find your own load? How does that get split?
~ Medical. Is he offering you medical at $500 wk or paying it for you? Has he got medical insurance mixed up with Workman's Comp insurance? Depending on the answer who pays Workman's Comp if there is any?
~ 1099 status is variable by state and ever changing with court rulings, as mentioned previously.
~ Do you like this O/O or is he a walking snowjob where you count your fingers after a handshake? Can you talk to any of his other drivers to find out? Ask him.
Best of luck whatever your choice.Tropsnart, sxdime, crb and 1 other person Thank this. -
