Hi All,
Good Afternoon!
I am trying to add couple of trucks in existing trucking business. As per my information, there are plenty of works. My options are oil field or OTR.
I was suggested to find the driver first before I add the truck. Is this normal in this business?
Is Oil field better than OTR?
Thank you,

Depends on what you do in the oilfield, and where you're planning on working.
-
Crude Oil, I am in AZ but job will be in texas!

I'm in ND, so I can't speak for work down there. And if it was me, I'd be getting work before you put on drivers because if you get drivers first, and work doesn't come on line as planned, you're probably going to have pretty disgruntled employees. Just my 2 cents.

Appreciate your reply.. My friend has about 6 trucks and I will be adding couple of truck in her existing business, I was told to get the driver first as she thinks job is available once we get the good driver. Do you know any good driver?
-
Sorry, can't help with the good driver part, bud. Skilled drivers are becoming a thing of the past, slowly and steadily being replaced by game playing neckbeards that just moved out of mom's basement. My buddy and I are from ND and don't plan on leaving ever. We have a pretty gravy job in the oilfield, even made good money during the downturn.annr Thanks this.

A "good" driver nets good pay, and a "great" driver "earns" great pay. It's all about the pennies & bennies, so what are you looking for and what do you have to offer?

As I have mentioned I am adding the truck in existing business (Friend's business), They are paying 30% on 1099 (contract).
-
Hate to say this but I don't think 30% on a 1099 will get you a competent hand. You might get takers trying to better themselves from bottom feeders. @Chinatown might be able to point a few to ya.
Crude Truckin' Thanks this. -
